In Japanese, , or sakusaku, means "the crunching sound of walking on snow." This awesome, dizzying footage from our Insta friend h___montenegro has plenty of that! Listen in as he walks through the Congress Trail.

We’re thrilled to partner with the multi-talented musician and artist Shulman Smith on the song and video release of his first single, Mineral King, from his debut album Way Out West, due out Summer 2021. Inspired and moved to action by the devastating fires last summer, Shulman Smith wrote Mineral King to help raise funds to protect giant sequoias from the perils of destructive fires like the 2020 Castle Fire, which raged through Sequoia National Park. If you love the son...g, love Sequoia and Kings Canyon, or love giant sequoias, please donate to Shulman Smith’s fundraiser that accompanies the song and video release All money raised will go directly into our Sequoia Conservation Fund. Plus, when you use the link below, you’ll get an additional $25 to donate to the nonprofit of your choice! Visit the fundraiser here https://www.every.org/@shulmansmi/Sequoia-Parks-Conservancy THANK YOU to Shulman Smith, his team, and to all of the generous donors who have supported this project! You can stream Mineral King on Spotify and Soundcloud or download it on iTunes.

In observation of Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11 is a fee-free day at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. Congress, by public law 441, made the General Grant Tree a National Shrine on March 29, 1956. Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, personal representative of the President of the United States, officially dedicated this tree on November 11, 1956 as a perpetual shrine to our nation's veterans, during a special ceremony at the base of the tree. It is the only living monument ever designated in America. Thank you to all of our nation's service members, veterans, and military families for everything you have given to protect the future of all Americans.

Happy Halloween! This year, we put on our best 1940's garb, pulled grandma's Chevy Coupe out of the garage, threw on a B&W filter, and took a drive through the Giant Forest to capture this photo at Tunnel Log. Pretty authentic, no? Do you have a favorite photo from Tunnel Log?

Even though we didn’t get a chance to visit Crystal Cave this year, one thing’s for sure Amplaria muiri and the rest of the cave's creatures will be waiting for you until next time. Scientists have discovered at least 40 new invertebrate species in park caves since 1965. This unique millipede species is only found in Crystal Cave, and it will continue crawling around in the dark until we can visit again.
