On Monday, March 13, 2017 Sheriff Mike Downey held his last department meeting as Sheriff of Humboldt County. During the meeting, he thanked his staff for thei...r dedicated service to the community and knows he is leaving the department in capable hands. Sheriff Downey also honored Sgt. Jesse Taylor and Deputy Ben Filippini (not present) by presenting them with lifesaving awards for saving a woman having a heart attack. Though his time as Sheriff has come to an end, Sheriff Downey has prepared an outstanding staff to continue to work in the mission of the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office.
