Breaking! We ratified the LA City Contract Amendment Agreement. 79% voted YES to ratify the agreement w/ no layoffs and furloughs. Our work is far from over. This newly ratified contract amendment also brings a contract reopener for January 2022, which means that every member needs to stand #UnionStrong this year.
ICYMI: SEIU 721 members joined CHIRLA at their #YestoRefugees Caravan for #AllofUs at LAX this morning.. From rolling back the Muslim, African, asylum, & refugee Bans, to reuniting families, ending deportations and freeing people from ICE, we're standing with CHIRLA in calling on the Biden Administration and Congress to pass legislation that will include #AllOfUs. Immigrant essential workers should be included in COVID-19 recovery and relief efforts and we need immigration reform for #AllofUs! #TogetherWeWin #ProtectAllWorkers #UnionStrong
LA City Members: Tonight at 5PM is the deadline to cast your vote via our voting portal. In addition, all ballots by mail must be sent back and arrive to SEIU 721 offices by 9PM tonight. Remember, a YES vote closes the door on layoffs and furloughs this year, and holds the line against additional furloughs in the near future.
Designed to provide foster children with an alternative to living in group facilities or in foster homes with people they don’t know, the Upfront Family Finding program employs part-time and previously retired Children’s Social Workers to seek out and recruit family members who can care for children within their first 90 days in foster care. The Upfront Family Finding program also known as UFF was piloted in ten of 20 DCFS offices with astounding results. UFF reduces the dislocation caused by moving children multiple times to different short-term placements. For these reasons and more, our union strongly supports expanding UFF throughout LA County.
As part of our current collective bargaining agreement with LA County, an extra 2.75% step will be added to the salary schedules of SEIU Local 721 members effective January 1, 2021. Read the article for more details! #UnionStrong #TogetherWeWin

We couldn’t have our annual SEIU 721 Latino Caucus Celebration this year due to COVID but all month long we called voters to ensure the Latino vote is delivered this Nov! On this final day of Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re saluting all of our Union’s members who are part of the Latino, Chican@, and Hispanic community. Our diversity is part of what makes us so strong and together we can do anything! #HispanicHeritageMonth #TogetherWeWin
"SEIU 721’s Mobile Workers Alliance drivers have been at the forefront of the fight to end Silicon Valley greed and raise standards for workers in the gig economy and right now, that means defeating Proposition 22. We’re beyond thrilled to have Mayor Eric Garcetti standing with us" SEIU 721 President Bob Schoonover #NoOnProp22

Today the LA County BOS passed a motion by Sup. Hilda Solis to investigate the treatment of fast food workers and research their working conditions and labor standards. Fast food workers are #EssentialNotExpendable and it's time they have the protections they deserve! #TogetherWeRise #FightFor15 #ProtectAllWorkers Read the statement from SEIU 721 President Bob Schoonover here: https://www.seiu721.org//seiu-721-statement-on-protections
California's Prop 22 is about Uber, Lyft and DoorDash trying to fool their own customers, and the general public, into thinking that some of the richest companies in California shouldn’t have to provide the same basic labor protections that every Mom & Pop business provides for their employees even though these same companies can afford to finance the most expensive ballot initiative campaign in California’s history. That’s wrong. LA County Supervisor Hilda Solis knows it and we know it and that’s why many of the LA-based drivers powering the success of these rideshare companies have organized with the Mobile Workers Alliance to stop it. Brothers and Sisters of SEIU 721: Vote #NoOnProp22!
