Wilderness Park is open and SOJV is accepting new students. This year we will be spending all of the school day outdoors in the safety of the park. We have updated our school to adapt to the new guidelines to keep our children, teachers, and families safe. You can submit enrollment interest here https://www.seedsofjoyvillage.org/ and you can read about the changes here. https://www.seedsofjoyvillage.org/news
We might not be gathering as a school now, but that doesn’t mean your family can’t keep on going. Nature is healing. Soak it in.
Nature is healing to all!
We can't wait to see you!
Trees grow their roots deepest in storms. Yes, they are messy. At the same time, these roots are essential if the tree is to survive and thrive.
Can you find the children hiding in the trees after school @seedsofjoyvillage preschool. I can hear them talking about their palace. They never tire of free play in the woods.
Hot off the press! Waldorf education for the win! Waldorf education emphasizes arts, imagination, movement and nature. "Forest kindergartens," offered at various locations around the country, provide gardening, nature walks and hikes and other outside opportunities for three hours a day, rain or shine. "We don't have to be experts in environmental science or nature studies. What's more important is that we spend time together with children by exploring curiosity in a fun a...nd safe environment. https://www.cnn.com//nature-makes-children-happ/index.html
Looks like we have some weather around here. Our motto: all weather is play weather!
Open house today at 4pm. Come see our classroom, meet our teachers, and learn about our programs.
Research reading Friday (is that a thing? ) about why play matters. You can find children playing at Seeds of Joy Village everyday! https://www.washingtonpost.com//the-decline-of-play-in-pr/
Learning how to listen everyday at SOJV.
Want your children to be able to play tag? Have them climb a tree! "They're banning tag, (but) they're not understanding the underlining reason for that ... With tag, in particular, the issue is that kids aren't getting what we call 'Heavy Work.' They're not getting a lot of resistance work where they're digging in the dirt for hours, climbing trees, (stuff) where they're getting a lot of pressure to the joints and muscles and developing the senses in the joints and muscles themselvesthat proprioceptive sense. Unrestricted outdoor play offers endless opportunities for heavy work play-wrestling with other kids, picking up big rocks, lifting heavy branches, climbing trees, digging, pulling a wagon, etc. [ultimately] offering children increased awareness of their muscle's capabilities and of their positioning for better body awareness."
One hour a week in nature has a significant impact on children’s social emotional and cognitive skills! https://www.telegraph.co.uk//learning-outside-just-one-l/
