We're back flying on weekends!

Seaplane Adventures 27.10.2020

Something fun for your Saturday! Seaplane Adventures pilot, Fred Hanson, and I participated in the 100th Anniversary of the first US Airmail flight across the US from New York to San Francisco yesterday. We completed the final leg, picking up a bag of postcards in Martinez Harbor and landing in the Bay at Marina Green where the intrepid Steven Tucker rowed it to shore in a small inflatable. We delivered the mail to San Francisco Postmaster General, Abraham Cooper, to officially complete the route.

Marin County is BRAGGING about setting up a hotline for citizens to turn fellow citizens in for COVID-19 violations. Shame. https://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com//coronavirus-marin-sets/

Seaplane's travails with Marin County are covered in the Marin Independent Journal this morning. The article helps bring the trials of business closures due to the pandemic into light but doesn't cover some of the critical problems that I know businesses all over this country are wrestling with. After four months of lost business and the heartbreak of trying to get back to work only to be forced to close again, Seaplane is permanently losing key personnel as our people have t...o find work where they can and are moving away from the Bay Area permanently. The institutional knowledge we are losing will set me back almost to the very beginning. When this is over - if there is anything left - I will be starting back at square one. I know this is true for many people who are struggling to just survive, just like us. It is starting to feel pretty desperate. What to do? Find hope. Work the problem(s). Don't give up. The only other choice is surrender - and I am just not that type. Wish us luck and better fortune and I wish that for all of you. https://www.marinij.com//sheriff-grounds-mill-vallley-sea/

Well, after many months of being closed by the pandemic, and reopening in mid-June with other similar small businesses, Seaplane Adventures has been shut down by the County of Marin on one of the busiest weekends of the Summer. Just before departing on a proposal flight today, the Marin County Sheriff showed up and threatened us with $1,000 per flight fines if we continued to fly. This is despite the fact that the current phase of reopening includes tour boat charters, indoor... restaurant dining, hair salons, barbershops and small bus tour operators. Seaplane Adventures is a Federally certified Part 135 air charter operator. We are regulated under the same Federal laws as major airlines and we have adopted the same safety and hygiene measures as all other air carriers. Air charter operators are open and have been flying passengers out of Marin County municipal airports for months. But Marin County shuts US down. The County of Marin is cherry picking winners and losers - choosing which businesses they want open or closed. This is just wrong, their reasoning is arbitrary and we are not being afforded a fair and level playing field. Please share this post and help support our small business. See more

On one of the busiest weekends of the Summer, the Marin County Sheriff's Office forcibly shuts down Seaplane Adventures claiming it is not an allowed business for the current phase of openings (which currently includes indoor dining at restaurants and hair salons).
