SDWF member Kathy Jones sat down with CNN reporters to discuss the benefits of bilingualism! Aside from putting her many talents to use on the various SDWF committees she's served on and as a past board member, Kathy put her Spanish language skills to use as a volunteer for Community Partner Barrio Logan College Institute where she helped launch an English-Spanish language exchange program with parents, and co-created Historia de Padres a book detailing the stories of the institute’s immigrant parents and their journey to San Diego.

In 2016 we partnered with Kitchens for Good to support Project Launch, their culinary arts apprenticeship program for individuals facing significant barriers to employment. In just five years more than 300 people have graduated from Project Launch, 85% of graduates have found jobs, and 81% of employed graduates have received wage increases and promotions within their first 18 months of employment! On top of all of that, they've also upcylced more than 230,000 pounds of surpl...us and cosmetically imperfect produce into meals. Such an incredible impact - thank you Kitchens for Good for all that you do for our community! #FeatureFriday

Bittersweet news as Bayside Community Center's Corey Pahanish is transitioning to a new role as CEO of the Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation, but we are so excited to see that former SDWF Philanthropy Fellow and now SDWF member and Fellows Committee Co-Chair Kim Heinle has been selected to serve as Interim Executive Director! Kim has been such an asset to our organization for the past few years, so we're thrilled to know that Bayside Community Center will be in such capable hands!... Congrats, Kim! #FeatureFriday
