The 1963 Mrs. America was a member of the San Diego Women’s Club. There is archive footage of Marilyn Mitchell on YouTube making her triumphant return to San Diego, and there was also a profile of her on CBS news 8 just 2 weeks ago! She is 93 and still lives in San Diego. Thought Marilyn is no longer an active member of our club, she is a part of our history. #CFWC #GFWC LINK to full CBS 8 interview https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAxokaYjYqk ... SDWC continues to support the San Diego Blood Bank. At our October meeting, we presented Cherryl Castro-Lector, Development Manager at SDBB, with a check for $25,000 to go toward their emergency preparedness program during COVID-19. Last year we helped them purchase a Trema system which is proving most helpful with the donation of convalescent plasma. #GFWC #CFWC #SDBB

SDWC is helping to support the purchase of St. Paul's PACE program's "Roving Clinic". This new specially equipped traveling clinic provides a more ideal approach to serving the needs of all the seniors they serve without putting others at risk. No other PACE provider in the state offers such an innovative service in their programs. SDWC contributed $25,000 toward the total cost of $300,000 for the purchase of a second "Roving Clinic." #GFWC #CFWC

We had our first face-to-face meeting since February today. Some of the ladies wore purple in support of Domestic Violence Awareness. As a service project, prior to the start of the meeting the ladies packed 15 welcome bags for Ronald McDonald House. The bags include 18 items requested by Ronald McDonald House and included both adult and child masks. This is the second time SDWC has packed welcome bags. The last time we packed 50 bags but due to the Covid-19 restrictions the house can not accommodate as many families as they would normally. #GFWC #CFWC

In support of California Federation of Women's Clubs President Pam Ament's signature project, "Save the Bees", SDWC has donated $1000 to Heifer International Beehive Project. This amount will be tripled by a matching grant Heifer International has received. This will provide, with the matching funds, 100 beehives to locations around the world. #CFWC #GFWC

On Wednesday, September 16, SDWC President Jan and Community Service Chair Diane presented a $30,000 check to Interfaith Shelter Network Executive Director Trisha and ISN Board President Barbara. This donation will install a state of the art security system at ISN's El Nido shelter for survivors of Domestic Violence and their children. SDWC has sponsored one of the apartments at El Nido for more than 15 years.

For 18 years, the San Diego Woman's Club has supported San Diego Blood Bank to fund critical equipment like Trima Accel Automated Blood Collection Systems and ...Centrifuges. Thanks to the #SanDiegoWomansClub for partnering with SDBB as we advance health and provide lifesaving blood components to patients in need. Currently, five new Trima systems are needed to support the collection of COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma (CCP). Eventually, these systems will also support blood collections at our eight regional locations and on our new bloodmobiles. Give the gift of life and make your important donation today. http://bit.ly/trimas-sdbb20 (Photo was taken in 2019)

For the health and safety of our members and friends, the San Diego Woman's Club is not having meetings during this pandemic. Watch our website and facebook for updates. BUT, even though we are not able meet face-to-face, the Board of Directors is meeting and answering requests for funding from organizations providing services during this time. We have donated $10,000 to the San Diego Food Bank and $5,000 to the Boys and Girls Club to support their childcare program for essential workers' children, and more.
