The Fall 2020 VentureStart Competition winners are Reid Becker, Isabella Messina, and Benjamin Shapiro. Their team, Flint, tackled the problem of how to increase financial investing for 18-30 year olds. Their solution was an app-based investment and education platform that targets 18-30 year olds to develop financial literacy and invest their money long-term. During the pitch, Flint emphasized three components: sweepstakes, social competition, and investment education as means to boost investment in this age demographic. #lavinentrepreneurshipcenter #sandiegostateuniversity #sdsu

Did you know TekMate, a startup founded by Lavin Entrepreneurs, started from an idea that was sparked at a VentureStart Competition? Four students banded together to develop and pitch a solution to the growing technology age gap of seniors. VentureStart is a lively competition that seeks to teach students how to creatively, problem-solve and pitch. This Friday, October 9th from 8am to 12pm, is your opportunity to be like TekMate. With a $1,000 cash prize, all it takes to win is a small group of people who spot and solve problems. Click the link below for more information about the competition, including a zoom link to participate. We hope you’re ready, because we are. See you Friday! https://lavincenter.sdsu.edu/prog/venturestart-competitions
Sustainable and scrumptious! Soul Much partners with local restaurants to rescue unused food and repurpose it to make delicious vegan and gluten free cookies. Soul Much had a goal to educate about sustainability and encourage conscious consumption. They presented this goal and their business venture to our Lavin Startup Fund committee, who loved it and decided to award them seed funding. If you have a business venture requiring funding, consider filling out an application for our Lavin Startup Fund. Applications for seed funding close tomorrow!
