#SDSUFowler alumna and top healthcare executive, Alison Fleury (Accounting, ‘85) still uses the lessons she learned at San Diego State University in her career today. Since graduating summa cum laude and as the university's top accounting student in 1985, Fleury has worked for multinational audit firm, Deloitte, as well as Sharp HealthCare in San Diego. Today, as senior vice president of business development of Sharp HealthCare, Fleury still employs the skills she learned at #SDSU. When I attend sessions or seminars (pre-COVID 19), I still sit at the front of the class, lean in and take copious notes, she said. I am grateful for the education and growth opportunities I received at San Diego State. Read more: http://bit.ly/390Vr28

#SDSUFowler Scholar Spotlight: Accounting major, Faith Goh! (c/o 2022) Faith shares what being a #SDSU Fowler Scholar means to her: Before I even entered college, a world of uncertainty, the one certainty I had was the Fowler Scholar Program. It framed what would become my college experience, with peers by my side, mentors, and a purpose for the next 4 years -- to develop as an ethical business leader. Being a Fowler Scholar is the bedrock of who I have become and will conti...nue to grow into until I graduate. Instead of focusing on this semester, or next semester, this program has made me envision who I want to become even beyond college as I establish my career and even beyond that. Having a long-term perspective makes my every action more thoughtful and goal-oriented. Being a Fowler Scholar means growth and development -- in every meeting, we are presented with challenging topics with questions that may not have answers, similar to how the ‘real world’ is. Being a Fowler Scholar is not what I am now -- but who I aspire to and will be in the future. Read more: https://bit.ly/3e0jr7B

Traveling is one of my greatest passions...I found the application and decided ‘why not?’ so I applied. #SDSUFowler management/entrepreneurship senior, Tiffany Gil, mowed through a unique cross-country competition recently. Gil traveled from Los Angeles to Tampa on a lawn mower...literally. Moving about 5 miles an hour with no money, no food, no gas, depending on donations and the kindness of strangers to compete in the #GreatGrassRace. ... Spoiler Alert: Gil and her teammate won and she will use some of the prize money to help jumpstart her entrepreneurial dreams, a student-established business within the ZIP Launchpad. I would highly encourage people to explore outside of their comfort zones. If you never push yourself, you may never discover what you are capable of. Her story : https://bit.ly/3nVh0aU

@ SDSU Alumni #WhereAreTheyNow? Spotlight featuring class of 2010 alumnus: Daryl Rysberg (Rysdyk). Rysberg, who was chosen by @ San Diego State University faculty as the top management information systems student in his class, reflects on how his journey has evolved over the last decade following his graduation from #SDSUFowler. Q: What has happened in your life since you left SDSU 10 years ago? ... A: During my tenure at SDSU, I was working full time at the department of structural engineering at UCSD, but I switched departments nine years ago. I’ve also bought a house in San Diego, traveled to several countries in Europe and got married. We haven't had a kid yet, but that's on the horizon. Q: What advice would you give current SDSU business students? A: Get to know your professors and peers, and make sure they know a little about you. You'll never know when they can help you or you can help them later in life. Also, after you graduate, find a career that you are intrinsically motivated to do, especially if it's one that is beneficial for others. Read more: https://bit.ly/3lLwg8y

ICYMI: A team of San Diego State University researchers including #SDSUFowler's Aaron Elkins and Bongsik Shin were selected to join a new consortium focused on developing solutions to counter terrorism threats. Elkins and Shin are focused on creating a custom augmented reality based on artificial intelligence system. With the overwhelming availability of information, the modern worker’s greatest and most limited resource is attention, said Elkins, an associate professor an...d principal investigator on the grant. While artificial intelligence algorithms have improved, our ability to translate this accuracy into decision support has not kept pace. AR presents an opportunity to compress multiple disparate information streams and AI classification results in data visualization holograms in the worker’s field of vision and with no physical limitations a major issue at congested airports.
