Happy Fourth of July, everyone!
On June 24, a county-wide project launched to eliminate tobacco waste from San Diego parks and beaches. The most littered item in U.S. neighborhoods, retail areas, and recreation areas is discarded cigarette filters, which are made out of plastic and contain toxic residue from tobacco smoke, said Georg Matt, a psychology professor and lead researcher on the project. Matt's team of San Diego State University researchers will use app-based GPS programs to collect and document... harmful waste. They will create maps and statistical models of their findings which will guide the county's initiative to solve the wide-spread pollution problem. #SDSUResearch Full story: https://bit.ly/3A7yAi0
