#MajorMonday Today we’re highlighting Environmental Sciences with an Instagram takeover from Megan Canchola, an SDSU Ambassador who is also a junior in this field! This program provides students with a rigorous foundation in natural and biological sciences most relevant to environmental issues. Students will be prepared to understand and contribute to a broad range of environmental problems confronting society and ready for a dynamic and ever-changing environmental science job market. #FunFactFriday This statue of Samuel T. Black, located between Hepner Hall and the SDSU Love Library, is rumored to be a lucky! Black was the first president of the San Diego Normal School, which later became San Diego State University. SDSU students can be seen rubbing the left foot of the statue when they walk by, in hopes that they will be granted good luck on an upcoming test or assignment.

#TourStopThursday This week we're at Viejas Arena, the location of Convocation, Commencement, Concerts, and more. This arena is also home to SDSU Men's Basketball, who maintained a 26-game winning streak in their 2019-2020 season (the longest in Division 1 at the time). Their season came to an abrupt end earlier this year, but the arena is the site of many memorable games for SDSU students! (All photos taken prior to 2020.)

#MajorMonday This week we're checking out the Dance Major! This major is a part of the SDSU School of Music and Dance and it focuses on preparing artists for careers in dance through exploration of different techniques, dancemaking, performance and theory. They strive to be a space for artists to practice, connect, create, and reflect with depth and permeability. *Note: This major requires a supplemental application and an audition. #FunFactFriday SDSU has over 350 recognized student organizations! We have everything from club sports, to academics, to service and more. If there is not an organization already that meets your needs, you can start your own with a group of 5 students and a faculty advisor! #TourStopThursday This week we are checking out Calpulli Center! The building is home to many different resources available to SDSU students, such as Student Health Services, the Student Ability Success Center and Well-Being and Health Promotion.

Reminder for Fall 2021 applicants: In alignment with the California State University (CSU) system, SDSU will not require or consider SAT or ACT exam scores from first-year applicants for Fall 2021 entry.

#MajorMonday Today we're checking out the Child Development Major. The mission of this major is to prepare students to become early childhood educators and professionals who work with children and families in their schools and communities. Students in the major have access to many different hands-on opportunities, such as supervised work in community agencies, children's programs, the SDSU Children's Center, as well as multiple school districts across San Diego. #FunFactFriday Hardy Tower, the oldest building on the SDSU campus, is full of history! It is the original home of the university library and also used to be home to the Art Department. Over the years multiple murals, including two of particular importance from the Works Progress Administration Era have been uncovered while renovations were being performed. These historic pieces, painted by art students in the 1930s, were thought to be lost, but have since been restored and moved to the SDSU Love Library where they are on display today!

#TourStopThursday For this monument commemorating SDSU’s 100th anniversary, 100 stones were collected from within a 100 mile radius of SDSU to use in the 100-foot circumference of the design. (Fun fact: If you stand in the center of the monument it serves as an echo chamber.)

We are so proud to have organizations at SDSU that make a positive impact on the greater San Diego community! Aztecs Rock Hunger is a yearly, university-wide campaign that strives to raise as much food as possible for the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank. This event will be taking place until Oct. 18 and their goal this year is to raise 650,000 pounds of food!
