SDSU MFA Musical Theatre 07.11.2020

We have wrapped up a very productive week working on a reading of Postcard American Town! This exciting new musical is part of the SDSU New Musicals Initiative and features the 8 MFAs along with 7 undergraduate students with direction by Stephen Brotebeck and music direction by Rob Meffe. Most of the cast worked onstage of the Don Powell (socially distanced with masks) while other cast members, along with writers Lynne Shankel and Crystal Skillman joined us via Zoom. Lynne an...d Crystal shared great insight into the story, the characters, as well as how the idea of the show came about. By the end of the week, several drafts of the script had been read through, and a completely new finale had been written and read/sung for the first time! We are so looking forward to the next step on this journey as we continue to explore more through a workshop this coming Spring! #sdsumtmfa22 #sdsuttf #newmusicals #postcardamericantown #wearewestville

Today was the first day of work on the reading of Postcard American Town as part of the New Musicals Initiative at SDSU. The eight MFAs along with seven undergrads are working all week with writers Lynne Shankel and Crystal Skillman via Zoom. Following safety precautions, everyone is wearing masks, socially distancing, and some of the cast is even rehearsing remotely from home. This exciting new musical will be worked on over the next two years culminating in a fully staged production. Check back in next week to meet the eight MFAs who make up the Class of 2022!
