San Diego Sportfishing Council 09.07.2021

To Our Valued Exhibitors, Sponsors & Participants: We know that everyone of us have hoped that conditions were such that we could produce San Diego’s annual Day At The Docks this year. But, after reviewing the continuing concern surrounding Covid-19, we recognize that it is just too early to put on an event of this size. After careful consideration of the health and safety of everyone in our industry our customers, our employees, our exhibitors, our crews and their families... - we have made the difficult decision to postpone Day at the Docks until 2022. 2020 was a challenging year for all of us, not just in sportfishing, but as global citizens. As fishermen, we learned to adapt and overcome obstacles to succeed. As a fleet, we overcame one of the most challenging set of issues that has ever faced our industry. We created protocol, worked hard to create a safe environment and worked successfully to get back on the water. We are grateful that the fleet has been able to continue sportfishing operations. With statistics trending in a positive direction, we must prioritize the community’s health and safety. We are optimistic about the upcoming season and are committed to do our part to ensure its success. We thank all of you for your understanding during this period of recovery. We look forward to future events and once again being able to host this annual celebration of sportfishing. Day at the Docks 2022 will take place on Sunday, April 10th. Mark your calendars. It will be quite the celebration! You have our best wishes for safe and successful 2021. What a great company High Seas Trading Co. is! And a grand idea of yours Barbara Steinberg to reach out to them to produce masks. Thank you so very much for sharing this story!

BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES! We are all in the same boat. When there is a storm warning, take it seriously.... It is so interesting to me that these are the ideas that come to mind. The people that venture out to sea at the helm have a remarkable responsibility and trust to navigate whatever the seas might throw at them. The seas can throw tremendous force and create unexpected dangers and required decisions. They are trained. They are capable. They are brave. They are attentive. They are resourceful. They have respect and concern for everyone on their own ships and to others also on ships on the sea. I have a great deal of respect for those that have accepted that responsibility. That is the type of responsibility being asked of all of us now. Recognize and accept the COVID-19 danger as real. Be smart and practice preventative measures for the safety of yourself, your household and your community. We have been given a storm warning. Please take it seriously. We can survive this storm.

March 17, 2020 COVID-19 Update The Port of San Diego’s Day At The Docks has been canceled.... After a comprehensive discussion, weighing the costs and benefits of finding an alternate date for the Port of San Diego’s Day At The Docks 2020, the board of the San Diego Sportfishing Council concluded that holding the event later this year is not a viable option. The outlook is very good for a strong spring and early summer fishing season. The dates we considered to be far enough in the future to be outside the present COVID-19 restricted time frame, would place the event in conflict with on-going sportfishing activity. And of course, sportfishing activity is what we support and promote. Over the next week we will be processing refunds to vendors and exhibitors who have signed up for the 2020 event. We are all very hopeful that this current health crisis is resolved soon and with the least harm to our community, the industry and our customers. We are planning the Port of San Diego’s Day At The Docks 2021 on Sunday, April 18th. We hope you save the date.

March 16, 2020 COVID-19 UPDATE Yesterday, the CDC announced that all gatherings of over 50 people planned for the next 8 weeks should be cancelled or postponed.... The Port of San Diego’ Day At The Docks 2020 was within that timeframe. In accordance with the CDC guidelines we have postponed Day At The Docks 2020. We are actively looking at another date for this year, possibly in early summer. To be able to reschedule, many things must come together, so it will be a little while before we have a rescheduling announcement, if any. Of course, we will keep you informed of any changes that are made in our planning. Thank you for your continued support through these uncertain times. Be Safe and Be Well. March 13, 2020 As of right now, we are preparing for the 41st Annual Port of San Diego’s Day At The Docks to take place on Sunday, April 19th, as scheduled. Sin...ce we are still more than 30 days out, it's a GO for now. That said, we are closely monitoring information available from scientific sources and the recommendations by national, state and local agencies to stay up to date with the changing landscape. Health and safety are our highest priorities and we will always do what is right. We believe that in the next week or two we will all have a better understanding of the situation. We will keep everyone informed as we go forward and will be posting updates to our website at the following link: http://sportfishing.org/covid-19-update/ We ask that you also take the precautions being advised. Please take care of yourselves and each other. With the highest regard for all of you in our community, Catherine Miller Peggy Couvrette San Diego Sportfishing Council
