Do you want a bike park in Escondido? Fill out this short survey ASAP! The City of Escondido has released a survey asking for input regarding improvements to Mountain View Park (1160 South Citrus Ave., Escondido, CA 92127). They are seeking input on two separate plans - one for a bike park and one for a vineyard with walking trails. You can probably guess which one SDMBA prefers. We believe this parcel with it's topography, has the potential to be an awesome regional bik...e park. There is space here for a pump track, a tot track, a skills trails, a flow trail and multiple jump lines. We need many voices of support to be heard by the City of Escondido and city council members. You do not need to live in Escondido to fill out the Survey but we encourage you to let your Escondido friends know about this effort. https://recreation.escondido.org/survey.aspx
We LOVE our VOLUNTEERS! While 2020 has been...interesting...our volunteers have kept working on behind-the-scenes advocacy and trail work as allowed. While we can't have our usual rousing Volunteer Appreciation Party, stay tuned for virtual details! Over the next few weeks, we will highlight some of our dedicated volunteers and we hope you can join in upcoming opportunities! This week we bring you Domingos Dias who is a dedicated trail builder who can be seen at events t...hroughout the County: "Volunteering to SDMBA is my way to give back to the Mountain biking community and the work that SDMBA does in keeping trails open and available to all of us. This great community of friends make its fun to be involved and appreciated. It is amazing to look back thru the years and see how much SDMBA has achieved here in San Diego. Trail work is therapy for me. I enjoy working by myself on the trail but also teaching and leading new volunteers on trial work days." Thanks, Dom for all of your help and support over the years!
Huge thanks to all the volunteers who helped at the sweetwater bike park over the past few weeks during the planned maintenance closure. Over 360 logged -that is equivalent to 9 full time workers to assist county staff. They worked through heat, ridiculous numbers of tumbleweeds, and so much SoilTac. Follow Sweetwater Bike Park on FB and IG for all updates. Slated to reopen tomorrow 10/27 but have to go check on rain effects overnight. Stay tuned.
Documenting work during the planned maintenance clousure in Oct. 2020.
The last two Sundays, our dedicated Laguna Crew has been out clearing up various problem areas along the Noble Canyon Trail. All handwork this time as no power tools are allowed during the fire restrictions. After riding in from various trailheads, they even got a ride in! They descended the Noble Canyon Trail carrying loppers, hatchet, saw, Trail Boss McLeod and Trail Boss Rogue Hoe to cut and remove fallen logs.... Extra special thanks to Trail Boss Tours tools for the awesome equipment which was purchased thanks to a grant from the County of San Diego. #trailboss Special thanks to Evan S. for stopping and helping our trail work and then rocking through Stairway to Hell.
We have verified reports of 4 deaths of mountain bikers on local trails over the past month. Our condolences go out to their families and friends at such a difficult time. By the reports, these incidents were all heat related emergencies/dehydration/heart issues. In the interest of educating people as to how to prepare and avoid such consequences we offer the following resources. ... BEFORE THE FUN, PREPARE AND PLAN: Make sure that you put a plan in place! Always tell someone where you are going! Dress appropriately! Bring plenty of water and remember to drink it. #knowbeforeyougo DURING THE FUN, KEEP IN MIND AND KNOW HOW TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEMS! Know what to do in case of emergency! Have a way to call for help. You have a better chance of surviving if someone knows where and when to look for you JUST IN CASE! https://www.bikeradar.com/.../essential-tips-for-riding.../ HOW TO IDENTIFY: This site gives example scenarios! https://www.utahmountainbiking.com/firstaid/heatstrok.htm Thanks to Jeff from Transcend MTB for putting together these resources and for his education efforts in our community! #recreateresponsibly
