Learn More: https://sdhrconsulting.com/freedom-culture/ In this new reality of remote work, video calls and recovery from a national pandemic, employers have been left floundering to navigate the new normal. Additionally, employees that have found they are excelling in a home office, could be reluctant to return to an in-office environment, while other employees may not be able to stand their own four walls any longer! Both of these extremes should be delicately addressed as ...the recent events of our world have reshaped what freedom looks like to us all. At SDHR Consulting, we have a strong and flourishing team, and in turn, a solid and growing business base. While our Three C’s, Clients, Colleagues and Community, fuel our success, the spark that ignites the passion within us is the freedom to share ideas and openly communicate in addition to the opportunity to grow and develop strong relationships. With Juneteeth quickly approaching tomorrow, all of us at SDHR Consulting wanted to take a moment to observe this very important day in history. Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and is a day to honor the achievement that was made on June 19, 1865. On this day, over 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas and announced that more than 250,000 slaves in the state were now free in accordance with the proclamation from the Executive of the United States. Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery and brings hope for a deeper impact in recognition and change for equality, respect, and human rights for all. Learn More: https://sdhrconsulting.com/covids-lingering-impact/ The pandemic has affected our lives in profound ways physically, psychologically, emotionally, socially, economically and organizationally. Soon some accommodations we’ve made due to COVID mask-wearing and social distancing may dissipate and fade from our everyday lives, however, some of the organizational ones may be here to stay for a while. Employers should continue to follow the Cal/OSHA COVID-19 Preven...tion Emergency Temporary Standards issued November 30, 2020. Stay tuned for more information after Cal OSHA’s board meeting this Thursday, 6/17/21. Many organizations now have 3 different cohorts of employees on-site only, remote only, and hybrid and there doesn’t appear to be consensus on the optimal balance of remote workdays versus on-site days. SDHR Consulting is perfectly positioned to help employers navigate these tricky waters. We have operated as a remote-first HR service provider since our founding in 2004. We have a first-hand understanding of the organizational challenges that remote work presents. Our staff has previous experience operating in both remote and on-site modes. Learn More: https://sdhrconsulting.com/my-employees-have-moved/ Throughout the pandemic, businesses were shut, schools were closed, but one thing that did not slow down was the housing market. Many employees started working remotely, which created an opportunity for them to think about where they really wanted to live. People left the city for suburban spots, houses with yards and outdoor space were at a premium, and since the commute no longer existed, it gave some employe...es the opportunity to move to another state. How do employers compensate an employee who has recently moved? Should a remote employee's salary be adjusted based on where they reside or kept consistent with in-office employees? #payequity #humanresourcesconsulting #hrconsulting #humanresources #hradvice #workplaceculture #opportunity #remotework #remoteonboarding #salaryguide

Learn More: https://sdhrconsulting.com/subsidized-cobra-notices/ The American Rescue Act has several provisions, one of which is that employers must offer COBRA coverage with a 100% company paid subsidy to former employees and their dependents who were involuntarily terminated if they were enrolled in the company’s health insurance at the time of termination. This also applies to current employees and their dependents enrolled in the company’s group plan who lost health insur...ance because their hours were reduced. Employees who voluntarily left the company are not eligible for this assistance. Learn More: https://sdhrconsulting.com/leave-policy-check-up/ These days we are checking up on our health and taking extra precautions when it comes to our well-beingbut what about when it comes to our business? The new year is a perfect time to check-up on your leave policies to make sure you are in compliance with present-day requirements. For sick leave programs, companies are required to accrue the leave and pay the employee their wages when they use sick leave for a qua...lified reason. Paid medical and family leaves are normally financed by the employer and/or the employee through payroll deductions. Some of the programs are administered by the state and others require the employer to provide a program through an insurance provider. COVID Exposure and Workers Compensation: https://sdhrconsulting.com/covid-exposure-and-workers-comp/ A new law was signed by the California Governor that will impact all employers and their workers compensation coverage. There is an important deadline of October 19th, 2020 that should not be missed therefore, it is important to understand how this law applies to you. SB 1159 is effective immediately and assumes certain employees who become ill with COVID-19 after July 6th, 2...020 are covered by workers compensation. This occurs if the employee tests positive within 14 days of performing work at the place of employment. Employers can rebut this claim using evidence of employer safety measures and employee’s risks outside their employment. Important October HR Updates: https://sdhrconsulting.com/oct-hr-update/ The final day for the California Governor to sign or veto this year’s bills has passed, and we now know what employers need to be aware of in regard to employment-related legislation. Learn More: https://sdhrconsulting.com/political-speech/ Are you aware of your employee's rights when it comes to political speech in the workplace? While this is a complex issue throughout the year, during this hyper-partisan election season, it is especially important to understand what employers can and cannot do when it comes to employee’s political sentiments, statements, paraphernalia or other politically-related activities and behavior.
