Recognized specifically for its commitment to diversity, the San Diego chapter's efforts include awarding an annual scholarship to an aspiring journalist from an underserved community. Welcome to the 2018-19 academic year, San Diego City College students! Campus will be buzzing this week with first-week activities, and there is still time to join digital journalism classes like DJRN 210, which gives students hands-on experience in producing online and print content for the City Times newspaper and Legend magazine. DJRN 210 is not just for journalism students -- aspiring photographers, multimedia producers, graphic designers, copy editors, web specialists and advertising sales are all welcome! Our Digital Journalism program has a new full-time faculty member! Nicole Vargas will be serving as an assistant professor of journalism and the new adviser of the City Times, sdcitytimes.com and the Legend Magazine. Vargas comes to City College from San Diego State, where she was a lecturer and internship coordinator in the School of Journalism & Media Studies. She also worked as a print reporter and multimedia producer at The San Diego Union-Tribune. Welcome Professor Vargas!
