In memory of Shadow, written by Shadows Mom 2010-2021. We brought Shadow home in late 2016 although he was named Jaws or Jazz at the time. We called him Shadow since he rarely left my side. As my daughter pointed out, he was my true shadow. He left many friends behind. He loved everyone and everyone loved him. He brought calm dog wisdom to our home along with a sense of humor and fun. Ever present. Ever patient. Always handsome and well turned out. While we only had... 4 1/2 years together until his health declined at some age over 11 (we were never sure of his true age), but we wouldn’t have traded a minute of our time with him for anything. I used to tell him that every minute together forever wouldn’t be enough time and so it wasn’t. Thank you to SCLRR for bringing Shadow into your network, fostering him and letting us take him home. Forever in our hearts. SCLRR sadly says goodnight to our sweet Beauty May (aka Muddy) who was adored by her foster mama, Ginny Ashley (and the entire family). This sweet girl came to us when her owner became ill and could no longer care for her. She was taken in by her angel foster mama and shortly after was diagnosed with a persistent cough that turned out to be lung cancer. Through many, many, many Dr. visits (one that involved a trip all the way to UC Davis medical cen...ter), she was loved and adored and made to feel special. In their care, Beauty May (aka Muddy) traveled, hiked, and enjoyed many adventures chasing squirrels, lizards and eating her favorite cheeseburgers. SCLRR is grateful for your donations that helped pay for her care and for our special fosters who loved her until the very end. Run free sweet Beauty May. Our lives are richer for having known you. Looking for a hiking pal? Study buddy? Cuddle companion? I'm your gal! My name is Smokey Joy and I am an 11 years young Lab/Shepard mix. I am in great shape for my age and can still go for long walks and even short hikes. I am the easiest, sweetest dog ever! (Seriously - that's what all the fosters say about me) - I double dog dare you to meet me-you will fall in love-I promise! I walk great on a leash, I know sit, lay down, go, come and stay. Foster Mom says I am a really go...od listener! I am also really good at giving love and snuggling. I don't know how to play very well, but I am learning. I used to live with 2 other labs in a not great situation. I was underweight and had yeast all over my skin, lost a lot of hair, and had ear infections. SCLRR got me all spiffed up and I look great now in my beautiful brindle coat! I also got spayed and had a dental cleaning. I am a little shy about meeting new dogs. I just hide behind foster Mom's legs, I'm not reactive at all. I have not been interested in any cats that I have seen. Once I get to know them, it is all good. I have lived with 4 different dogs in my foster homes. So what is the best home for me? Since I'm a senior (I don't feel like one) I should take supplements and a one story house would be preferred but I can do stairs if needed too. I love all humans and can't wait to love and be loved by you (be careful-I might stick like Velcro-but just a little! ) If you are ready to be loved and have your home filled with sweetness and a silly smile, please contact your Family Rep. Pupdate! Jax (formally Jack Black) has been busy bringing smiles to peoples faces. Here he is with the Storm Troopers at Valley Presbyterian Hospital. He was doing Pet Therapy that day and these guys came to entertain the children.

Hi! I'm Harlow, a 10 year old female Lab mix. I have a thick yellow coat, I am a ‘big girl’ I’ve hovered around 100 lbs. since SCLRR rescued me from the shelter. I was so sad because my family who I’d lived with since I was 11 weeks old decided I could not stay with them when they moved so they brought me back to the shelter. I was pretty heartbroken and very confused for many days at my foster mom’s, just whining/crying a bit, and not eating. Then after several days I real...ized it is not so bad getting lots of love and pets and short walks and having nice cool soft places to rest in the house. I’m actually a happy girl, just content to be home with my person hopefully a person who is home a lot! I’m fine around kids and all people though I do get protective of my person so I may bark if we’re out and a dog is coming towards me. But I relax quickly I just had to build up some confidence. It would be great to have a modest sized, fenced yard to sniff and wander in my own space! I would probably prefer to be an only dog (so I can have all the attention to myself) with someone who has had big dogs like me in the past and who loves petting and hugging a big furry gal like me I did grow up with two cats in my old house. Lately, though, when I see cats around my foster moms’ house, I have tried to chase them and had to be pulled back! I forget about them quickly, though. I don’t mind the stairs and I get so excited when my foster mom is finally going up to bed that I run up in front of her! I am happy that SCLRR made sure I had good medical care and checkups- and sent me for a good dental cleaning where they also removed a couple of lipomas [just fatty lumps]. They had a senior blood panel. While I could lose a few pounds, the Dr. says I am just a big gal with a nice thick coat. If you have a big heart, some time and experience with big dogs, and older dogs, please consider me and contact your Family Rep. I am a sweetheart! See more

Hi everyone! It’s me, Miss Maple. I’m doing well and growing a ton. It's been 2 weeks since I had my jaw repaired. My foster family says I’m the best little puppy ever. Can you tell I love working with my foster dad? He says I’m a big help. Now that I’m off my pain meds they also say I’m a little rascal as I’m into EVERYTHING. I LOVE to eat and play and I’m learning to go to the door when I have to potty. I’m not reliable yet, but I’m starting to get it. Anyway I don’t see the Dr. about my jaw until Nov. 20 so no news on that. I hope you are well and well fed as me. I looooooove the yummies! Xoxo Miss Maple

Hi I’m Adam K, a 12 yr. old boy. I understand that most people are reluctant to take older dogs. We do have more medical bills and we aren’t as playful as the young guys but if it’s love you are looking for, we seniors are the best. Luckily my friends at SCLRR know this. So, they accepted me into rescue when I was in a time of need as my owners were moving. I have been with SCLRR since September. At first I was having some trouble walking because I was terribly overweight ...at 120 lbs. But since then, we worked on a diet, some short walks and I am proud to say I already lost some weight. They put me on anti-inflammatory medicine, probiotics, and joint supplements. To tell the truth, I’m already feeling much better because my foster mom is spoiling me rotten and I LOVE every bit of it. Today I went in for a dental cleaning, had 4 teeth extracted and several growths removed. One of the growths was in a bad area and it was very ugly too so I am glad I got rid of that. I will also need a follow up surgery later on as I have several other fatty lumps on my belly and will need an entropion surgery. The cost for today’s surgery alone was over $1500. Add this to my previous care for pre-surgery exams and blood work. Plus I will need another surgery later. Can you donate a little bit to SCLRR to help offset my expenses? It’s only through the donation of friends like you that SCLRR can rescue other dogs like me and give them the life they deserve. We are grateful for your support. So, please give today, here on Facebook or visit SCLRR.org to donate through PayPal or mail a donation to us at SCLRR - 24325 Crenshaw Blvd #137, Torrance, CA 90505. See more

Hi Everyone! Scooby here! I just wanted to give you all an update on how my procedures went. I had my dental done and the dogter removed some black teeth that were sideways and causing me pain. He also removed a lot warts/growths that he felt were caused by years of malnutrition. The procedure took a very long time (3 hours!) because my skin is so thick and hard to close due to chronic inflammation. The dogter did say that I have to go back in 1 month and have 3 more teeth removed. He could not keep me under anesthesia any longer to remove anymore teeth. My foster Mom is keeping my very comfortable and spoiling me. I want to thank everyone for their donations and well wishes! I certainly felt the love. It's only through the help of you kind people that SCLRR can help pups like me.

Sweet Miss Maple was just picked up by her foster family. The ER cleaned/drained the infection, did a culture and prescribed a second antibiotic. Heading home to rest now.

Southern California Labrador Retriever Rescue 25.08.2020

Miss Maple here again. I am not feeling so great this morning as my face is swollen. I am back at the ER vet to see what is going on. Please send good vibes my way. Update 10.00 am. The ER doctor just called and Miss Maple has an abscess and infection under her chin (most probably from the bite) that generated the swelling. They are going to have to put her under anesthesia again to clean it up then re-do the muzzle. They are going to take a culture to test what type of infection is exactly just to make sure she is on the right antibiotics.

Southern California Labrador Retriever Rescue 20.08.2020

Hi everyone it’s me, Miss Maple. Thank you soooo much for your help. I am safe and very loved in my foster home. I’m already starting to feel better. I love to snuggle and give small kisses through my muzzle. I am bottle fed 4-5 times a day and can’t get enough of that yummy food. When my pain medication wears off I start to shake a bit and my foster mom gives me more and I feel great. I’m really am grateful for your help and I know my friends at SCLRR will keep updating you on my progress. Xoxo Sent from my iPhone

Miss Maple is a sweet little puppy with big problems. At 8 weeks, she was purchased from a backyard breeder only to be taken home to a nightmare. Within the first few days of arriving, the older dog was left unsupervised in the room with her and attacked multiple times. The result? A broken jaw, several puncture wounds that required stitches and a whole lot of pain. The owner then took her to a vet and was given a hefty estimate for her care ($5,000-7,000) so they opted fo...r no care at all (not even X-rays to confirm a diagnosis). Next day they took her directly to the local shelter for euthanasia. Fortunately for Miss Maple, the kind shelter employees decided to give this baby girl a chance and asked the owners to allow them to place her with a rescue instead. The shelter contacted SCLRR this morning and we rushed to pick her up and took her directly to Blue Pearl in Irvine, which is an ER and specialty hospital. The great team at Blue Pearl took Miss Maple in immediately where she was sedated so they could take proper x-rays of her, repositioned her mandible to the right location, repaired the fracture and stitched her puncture wounds. The conclusion is that she has a long journey toward healing ahead and her mouth will have to be taped for some time and fed by syringe. The surgeon is optimistic that at her young age she will heal well. As of now, Miss Maple is resting comfortably in her new foster home and is adored. Will you partner with us to get Maple on the road to full recovery? The total cost for today's procedure was $1,569.84 and she’ll require follow-up care as well. Can you donate a little bit to SCLRR to help offset Miss Maple’s expenses? It’s only through the donations of friends like you that SCLRR can rescue other dogs like Maple and give them the life they deserve. Your donation of any amount is greatly appreciated. If we all donate a little, it adds up quickly. So, please give today, here on Facebook or visit SCLRR.org to donate through PayPal or mail a donation to us at SCLRR - 24325 Crenshaw Blvd #137, Torrance, CA 90505. Thank you again for being on Miss Maple’s team of angels. We’ll be sure to post her pawsitive updates as she recovers.
