South Coast Interfaith Council (SCIC)'s Courageous Conversations over Coffee- Growing in Spirituality in the Midst of COVID-19: An interfaith Dialogue Braver Angels: Uniting red and blue Americans in a working alliance to depolarize America When: Friday, Feb. 5, 3pm Featured Guest: Randy Lioz Braver Angels’ Sr. Operations Manager and California State Coordinator... There is evidence to suggest that America is now as polarized as we have been since the Civil War. We are in what some are calling a cold civil war right at the moment when a spreading pandemic, vast economic trouble, and other national and global challenges call upon us to support each other like never before. Join us as we have a conversation with Randy Lioz of Braver Angels about their mission to restore and to heal the wounds between left and right. Please register for the event using this link: https://us02web.zoom.us//tZwkd-2qqT8uGdDKoWM0fed0IZo4lp7Fc ! All are welcome! Please join us! See more
When Jesus taught the people how to pray, he told them to ask God to "Give us this day our daily bread." The work that grocery workers perform every day is a sacred act. Without it, God cannot work in the world. The Quran declares, "Woe unto the exploiters, who, when they collect [labor] from others, they demand it in full, and when they measure for them [pay wages], they stint. Do they not think they will be resurrected unto a tremendous day?" We call on Krogers and all gr...ocers to pay a living wage and not to retaliate against workers. Please sign the petition below and feel free to comment with your faith community's beliefs regarding wage theft and workers' rights. https://actionnetwork.org//shame-on-kroger-keep-long-bea/
The SCIC commends our fellow interfaith partner, Rev. Jane Gould for speaking out on behalf of Long Bech grocery workers. We call upon our communities to lend likewise support to those who have helped put food on our tables through the pandemic. "'Two weeks ago, with the strong support of community and religious leaders, the Long Beach City Council voted unanimously to reinstate Hero Pay to acknowledge the sacrificial commitment of our essential Grocery workers. As Rector o...f St. Luke’s/ San Lucas Episcopal Church in Long Beach, I know that my parishioners and our neighbors who work in grocery stores have shouldered more risk than most during the pandemic while the Grocery industry itself has benefited with record profits due to more people eating at home. It is unconscionable that instead of rewarding the sacrificial commitment of their employees, Ralphs and Food 4 Less would respond with litigation and retaliation against our Long Beach heroes who serve the rest of us every day,' said Rev. Jane Gould." https://ufcw324.org/ufcw324pressrelease/ #longbeach #essentialworkers #groceryworkers #krogers #pandemic
The slight but strong truck driver stayed with each body until it was lowered into the ground. He would then climb down to ensure the deceased lay on his or her right side, facing toward Mecca, to await the Day of Resurrection. Afterward, Alshilleh emerged to deal with the living. He broke up arguments, offered gravesite prayers, did whatever grieving families asked of him. He never charged for his services, relying only on donations. In many cases, he’d pool those funds to pay for the funerals of strangers, Muslims and not.
