Email Update from Sensei Britni: Hello families! I apologize for sending this update so much later than planned. I hope you are all doing well. ... This update is about returning to a full in person schedule. The black belts and I have started giving the heads up that we will be returning to an in person schedule. This will begin on Monday July 12 and Tuesday July 13. We are excited for things to be mostly back to normal and we hope that our students are excited for this next adventure with us. The most important question that has been asked is: What will the fully in person classes look like? Well...I'm glad you asked. 1. We will be sparring (both classes!) and conditioning (intermediate/teen and adult). We know this has been the thing everyone is excited for....we are personally very excited. 2. We have capped our classes at 35 (except for 2nd class, which is capped at 45 between the two classes - intermediate/teen and adult). We did this to help ensure that our Zoom students can sign up for the in person class and have room. 3. We will no longer have Zoom classes after July 7 and July 8. 4. Those who are not vaccinated will be asked to wear a mask still. We are still figuring out our sparring schedule, but I will know that before the session starts. We also will be working kata a lot more in person to help prepare for an in person testing in September. (Those who tested from January-May, I haven't forgotten about you...my goal is to promote you at the in person classes if you sign up for those spots). I know there may be some concerns. I encourage you to respond back to me with any concerns so that we can have that conversation. We have been on a roller coaster since March 2020, but I appreciate the feedback and concerns during this time. Please don't hesitate to reach out.

We just got word today that those who have the vaccine do not have to wear masks; however, it is still your choice if you wish to wear your mask.

Hello families! With the announcement of California being free of masks and social distancing, there is bound to be some questions about our classes. As we head into class this week, we have been asked to follow the guidelines we have been used to for the last couple of months. ... This means masks are still required until further notice. Part of this has to do with our classification with CSD as we can fit into many and CSD has to work to figure out the guidelines we fall under and we do not have that answer yet. -Sensei Britni 916-220-8262

Words from Sensei Britni: I wanted to take a moment and reflect on how 1 year ago today, we had our first Zoom karate class and how nearly a year later, we're getting ready to offer in person classes. We have come such a long way during this time. We have learned how to navigate a platform that was basically unheard of until 2020 and we learned how to persevere through this challenge.... Thank you to everyone who has stuck with us during this past year. I definitely did not expect to be virtual this long and I know it has been a challenge. I'm ending this note of with 2 pictures I took during our first classes of Zoom karate. In both of these pictures, I had no idea what I was going to do and lead you all through this, but I am thankful for everyone who has continued to support myself and School of the Tiger as a whole so that we can continue to grow. Thank you again for all your support. We cannot wait to be reunited with our students and instructors in person once again.

GREAT NEWS! WE ARE OFFICALLY RETURNING TO IN PERSON! We are excited to announce our return to in person classes starting April 19 at the Pavilion (running on Monday/Wednesday and Tuesday/Thursday)! While it is not officially in the catalog, we wanted to send a heads up about our return. We are thinking it will be in the catalog by Friday.... Just like last time, our in person classes will be socially distanced and masked up. We will have sanitizer available. **To accommodate our families, we are also offering virtual classes that will run concurrently to the in person classes. Dear families, This is a reflection of the last few months and hopefully serve as a reminder to many members of our community about mental health during a pandemic. I have not seen many of you in person since March. Getting the phone call from CSD devastated me because I know for many students, karate is their way of letting go of the stresses of school, work and life in general.... With your support, we have been able to continue our classes via Zoom since April and briefly in person from end of August to middle of November. My biggest concern (ask any black belt) has been the mental health of our students during this time. I know I miss having the interactions we used to have, so I can only imagine that the students feel the same. As a teacher in the district, I have seen and heard about the effect distance learning has had on everyone. Please keep in mind the following signs: -decline in activities that have they were interested in before (sports, school, art, etc.). -lack of motivation -becoming upset when talking about school or work -change in sleeping pattern -change in eating habits -asking questions with a dark outlook attached -increased anxiety I have wanted to share this message for a long time, but honestly: I was unsure of how to word this message. The last thing I am wanting is to create hysteria in a community I care about, but as many of you know: I try to use our small platform to bring awareness to issues that I am passionate about. I want to thank you all again (especially if you read the whole message). If you are needing resources to help your child, please reach out to me. Email from Sensei Britni about some technology issues during class tonight: Hello families, I hope you are doing well. I want to apologize for the shortened class today. We were told by many students that I was freezing and that they were unable to hear me, so I shortened the class today. I double checked my Zoom update and it updated just a few moments ago.... I know that many students are using the school-issued chromebook from Elk Grove Unified School District. That is totally fine. As we know, those chromebooks are not meant to Zoom as often as we use them for, so hopefully some of the following can help: -Try limiting the number of tabs open on the Chromebook while using Zoom. -Try to keep family members on one device during the Zoom class. (This may also help with your internet usage in the future as well) - if possible -Turn off the camera if the instructor is freezing. -Try to keep internet usage to a minimum while on Zoom (Zoom is known to use a lot of data, especially with camera on) -Clear the cache on your device (this will help speed up your device) -Reset internet router once a day If none of these work, try a different device, like a phone or a tablet. Please reach out if you have any concerns or questions. Knock on wood: hopefully no issues on Thursday!

Hello families! Our last 3 in person classes will be outside this month. We are working with CSD to figure out some logistics due to some new information. I will keep you posted as I receive information.

We love our classes! Our indoor classes require that all students and instructors wear a mask at all times. We also scrub down any surfaces the students touch (door handles and tables).

We love that we're back in person (of course following all social distancing guidelines). With our outdoor class, students and instructors do not have to wear a mask if we are able to maintain 6 feet distance.

Team School of the Tiger: As many of you know, we are passionate about issues that affect many people in our community. We have been participating in the Out of the Darkness Walk for the past 2 years and this would have been our 3rd year. Since the walk is now virtual, we are looking at alternatives that can still help us to raise awareness and funds for this cause, but making sure that we are able to maintain social distancing while doing so....
