New blog post: COVID-19 and our Food Supply. Though food is still plentiful, with only temporary and localized shortages, the threat of the COVID-19 crisis to the food supply is considerable. We are working on ways to teach the knowledge of growing food remotely, and hope to make it accessible for all as soon as possible.... Today, more than ever, we need local food Locally produced food is becoming more and more important to our communities. The more direct the connection between farmer or rancher and market, the fewer hands and interactions that occur on the way to consumers, the safer we all are. And the fresher the food, the more nourishing and protective of our health. Head to our blog to read more: https://school-of-adaptive-agriculture.org/all-posts/ We would love to hear your thoughts and comments! #localfood #localizefood #covd19 #foodsupply #nofarmsnofood #remotelearning #onfarming #becomeafarmer #growfood #startagarden #backyardgardening See more

Like most small organizations and nearly all households around the country and the world, the School of Adaptive Agriculture is waiting out the storm. Two weeks ago we agreed to postpone indefinitely our Practicum Program, scheduled to start April 20th. We had admitted six wonderful students, offered generous scholarships and were looking forward to a great session. But it was apparent even before the stay at home orders that we could not plan on starting in the near future. ...Whether or not that will be this summer sometime, no one knows. Within the next few days, it became apparent that our workshops, too, at least those scheduled for the next couple of months, would have to be canceled and, hopefully, rescheduled sometime in the future. The Ridgewood Ranch community, which graciously hosts the School, recently announced its own restrictive visitor and resident policies. Programs at the Ranch, too, are on hold. Despite the uncertainty we continue to hope and plan for a future after the crisis. We will be working on new programs and plans for existing ones as we learn more about what to expect in coming months. Look for updates here on Facebook and on our website. And keep in touch! We would love to post stories of how local farmers, ranchers and gardeners are coping and caring for their communities. Above all, keep safe and find satisfying ways to use this down time from the hectic pace we’ve all taken for normal. Michael Foley - Director of SAA

We feel it is our responsibility to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in our community, and for that reason we are canceling all of March and April workshops until further notice. Our Practicum Program will also be postponed to a later date to be announced. This was a hard decision that we know will affect our students, instructors and staff but know that we are doing all that we can to maintain everyone's safety and health. Please be patient as we are doing our best ...to address everyone’s concerns. We are a small educational project working under a non-profit, so we have limited resources, but we will issue and honor refunds, and respond to your requests as soon as possible. Our contact info is on our profile, and the best way to reach us is via email: [email protected]. Be kind to one-another and take care of yourself. We will get through this together, even if it is through social distancing. #covid19 #protectyourcommunity #coronavirus #flattenthecurve #mendocinostrong See more
