This year, under the CARES Act, the Federal Government has eliminated the cap on charitable donations, so if you itemize, 100% of your donation is tax deductible. For those who don’t itemize, another new CARES Act provision allows people who do not claim itemized deductions on their federal tax returns to receive an above-the-line $300 deduction for charitable contributions. This is referred to as a universal deduction and may extend beyond 2020. This provides even more incentive to give to your favorite causes before the end of the year. We hope you consider a gift to SchoolForce to help bridge the gap between low state funding and what is needed to provide your child with an exceptional education. Give today at schoolforce.org/donate. For more information, visit: https://www.irs.gov//how-the-cares-act-changes-deducting-c

The Silver Lining to Our Struggles with Online Learning "The world has changed fundamentally, and we will never fully return to the way things were before. We now know that there is a world of opportunity that we can tap into through our computer screens. Given the differences in access to these valuable resources, there are tremendous opportunities for philanthropy and corporate investment that support the learning environment of the future and bring the world to our childre...n in new and innovative ways that will capture their imaginations, spark their curiosity and, ultimately, drive their success." -APCO Worldwide article THANK YOU SchoolForce donors for funding Chromebooks and many distance learning technologies for BRSSD students! It's clear to me that there is a big gap between what state funding and property taxes can provide and what schools need to ensure every student has a high-quality education. I don't consider vital functions like librarians, music and art to be "extras" - but unfortunately the reality is that parents need donate to help make these possible. We donate annually and also use company matching to steer even more funds to our local schools. As part of the social studies curriculum, these BRSSD fifth graders have been studying European exploration. Students participated in a Design Challenge, studying and designing their own cargo ships. The goal was to construct a ship that would float in a body of water (sink, bathtub, or bucket) and that could hold the weight of twenty pennies. It was a fun hands-on way to study Archimedes' principle about buoyancy. Thanks to SchoolForce donors for funding Gizmos, the technology platform used for this lesson! #SchoolForce #BRSSD

With two children at Cipriani (1st and 4th) we continue to donate, every year, to the PTA and SchoolForce, now known as the Education Commitment Campaign (ECC). The suggested donation is much less than what we would be paying for a private education. We believe it is imperative to support the amazing programs the donations enable - Specialized teachers, Counselors, Professional development for our teachers, Art, Technology, etc... which have all enhanced our children’s educa...tional experience while enabling our amazing teachers to continue their education! It’s an investment in your children’s future. If you have a company match program it can make the investment go further! -Lois and James Giulianotti, Cipriani parents Check out the FAQs at https://www.eccbrssd.org/ to see how your matching can dollars benefit your school's PTA and SchoolForce! Make sure to donate before October 31st ! https://www.eccbrssd.org/donate
