Please read this email recently shared with us from a local veteran's grandson. : "Dear whomever it may concern, I wanted to take the time to reach out on behalf of my family and my grandfather specifically. On May 30th 2020, my grandfather, Thomas R Hidalgo will be celebrating his 100th birthday. My family and myself will be celebrating his centennial at one of his favorite local restaurants [the Loading Chute in Creston, CA] and we wanted to contact some of his favorite pe...ople and places on his behalf. My grandfather was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California. Being a teen in the late 1930s, he enlisted in the US Army and served in World War II. He married his high school sweetheart, Jennie Nieto, just before the war. They have five children together and she passed away several years ago. His military service would continue into Korea and the California National Guard as well. He also served during Vietnam, however he was stationed stateside, responsible for training younger troops. During his service he would be awarded the Bronze Star Medal twice and would reach the rank of Full Bird Colonel. I would appreciate anything that would help commemorate his life and service. It doesn't have to be much: from a card to a shirt, I know he would be happy to receive anything that acknowledges this special occasion. Barb and I were up in Solvang today in Santa’s Village. Where were you?

@SBVeteransFoundation is manning the gift wrapping booth in the community park’s gazebo every Saturday, starting November 30th through December 21st. Santa Claus is right next to us and is talking to children from all over! He and Mrs Claus have a petting zoo right next to them with adorable farm animals. Oh! There is a light show along Copenhagen Drive during the night. This Saturday, December 7th is the Christmas Parade
