This #californiatowhee was happy to get a drink and a bath today. You don’t need a fancy birdbath or fountain (but awesome if you can!) to keep wildlife healthy and happy in your garden. Just a simple saucer on a rock with clean water every morning (or when you can) makes a big difference. Add some small rocks inside too so butterflies can perch safely. Especially as it gets hotter! #inmygarden #habitatgarden #forthebirds #pollinatorgarden

If your #californiapoppies are done blooming, turning gray, and making seed pods (like these), you can either leave them to ripen, feed the birds, and spread seed around your garden when they POP (poppy pods pop!). -or- if you want a tidy garden, cut the plant at the base so the roots will regrow next year (if you don’t pull them). If you want to harvest the seed still, bundle the stems inside a bag (paper or plastic) and hang them upside down. Pods will pop when ripe and tiny seed will fall into your bag, to share and spread next fall. #seedsavers #poppypods #gardentips

#sproutingonion ? #thenplantit ! First, carefully peel layers (I found all these roots hiding inside!) until you get to the base and can separate (I found two sprouts, sometimes there are 3 or 4). I had to slice at root base to separate, and just one side had most of the roots. That one I secured with a rubber band in a tall jar, gently pushing roots into the water. The other sprout goes straight into water. Joining the rest of my #kitchenscrapgarden starts ( #napacabbage & #celery - both rooting well and almost ready to plant). #growyourownfood #reducefoodwaste #containergardening #covictorygarden
