Our horses seem to think that the round pen has been put up for their enjoyment... they absolutely love the softer ground and everyone keeps laying in it! Here is our adorable resident senior Dandy enjoying a little break.
Thank you so much, Siara, for the purchase of two fly masks (which have already been put to good use!) and fly spray. The fly season is not yet over so these are extremely helpful for our herd! Thank you so much for your generosity!! If you haven't yet gotten a chance to, the horse rescue is still in need of several more things in order to keep our equine fellows comfortable for the rest of the fall and into the winter. Besides the small items available on Amazon, we are als...o looking for a couple of 14' pipe gates and a large cargo storage container (to protect our goods from the winter rain). We have created a wish list on Amazon where you can purchase the items and they will directly ship to us. Keep your receipt for a tax deductible donation. https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/15918UDK0Z119... or you can also go to the following link and donate directly to the horse rescue: https://www.savethemallhorserescue.com/donate Monetary donations are as important as ever now since we are gearing up for winter and it’s expensive to feed our 14 horses throughout the winter with no access to grass pasture (only dry lots). Even if you can't donate, we'd greatly appreciate a share to get the word out. Thank you so much for all of your support! We REALLY appreciate it!
Very informative blanketing guidance.
Two are better than one!
Thank you, Tammy, for your generous donation of two cat food bag and ointments! Our barn cats are very happy.
Do you have a good or service that you could donate to STAHR to become a part of a virtual silent auction? If so, please reach out! We're actively looking to procure items for a virtual silent auction as our year-end fundraiser!

Missy is searching for her forever home! She is currently located at the horse rescue facility in Elk Grove, CA. Born in 2004, Missy is a 14.3hh, chestnut BLM Mustang mare. Her freezebrand is 04590008. Missy hails from the Warm Springs Canyon in Nevada. When Missy came to us, she had not been cared for very well. Her feet were overgrown and she wasn't vaccinated nor wormed. After getting some much needed TLC, Missy is now in great shape. She is doing well with the farrier. ...When giving Missy wormer (or sedation), we put a bridle with a bit on her and she takes the medicine easily. Initially, Missy was very untrusting and it took quite a while to get her to trust us. She can be hard to catch at times, but if you are patient, she will come to you. Once she finds her person that she can bond with, she will come up to you readily. Missy knows how to lunge both ways, back up, and leads. She can be haltered and tied. She was in training for three and a half months in 2019, during which time she was ridden under saddle in the round pen and outside the round pen. Unfortunately, she has not been ridden since then, but we have been working with her in the round pen. She is very responsive and sensitive to pressure. With consistency and a refresher, she should be able to be brought back under saddle in due time. On our farm, the horses are exposed to loud tillers, trucks, and various other things, all of which she is fine with. In the herd, she is a little more of an alpha mare. In the round pen, she has a very flowing trot and canter. Her movements are gorgeous. She would look a lot better once she is actually in shape! Missy would thrive with an experienced handler and daily interaction along with a refresher under saddle. Missy is up to date on vaccinations and deworming. She does have a slight swayback and missing hair on her nose which stems from her halter being too small when she came to us, causing permanent hair loss. It’s her beauty mark! Hello fellow horse lovers! Call to Action: We are looking for ways to fundraise and could use the community's help! - Do you like cleaning and decorating horse shoes? We already have a lot of horseshoes that need to be cleaned and then decorated (we usually do Christmas themes). We could use your help with this! ... - Are you artistic or love do make handcrafted items? This can be anything from painting rocks to making wreaths or almost anything else you can think of. Ideally it would be something that can be sold (sometimes with the help of a local business) or made as a group (with a donation to participate). - Do you have something taking up space (horse related or non horse related) that can be used as a prize in a virtual silent auction? - Do you have other ideas or are even able to help with fundraising, perhaps with the help of your family and friends? We welcome any ideas you may have. Please reach out to us and let us know how we can raise funds to help the horses together!

Rebel is looking for his forever home! He is currently located at the horse rescue facility in Elk Grove, CA. Born March 2018, Rebel is a spunky captive-born Mustang gelding exploding with personality. He was born on a wild horse sanctuary and came to our facility, together with his mother, when he was about a month old. He is halter broke, leads, and ties. We are working on his manners with the farrier, though if the farrier can show Rebel that he doesn't run the world, he ...is fine (see the pictures on our website with Rebel being a good boy with our amazing farrier). Rebel still needs to learn personal space and some good manners, but he’s a very friendly little guy. Rebel is extremely active and loves to run around. In his pen, he tends to paw at everything in his path, be it the fencing, his food trough or the ground. Rebel is super playful and enjoys carrying around toys like the Jolly Ball or just bounce around all over the place. We haven’t been able to get a picture or video of it, but he does really cute little jumps in place when he’s playing around. Rebel is up to date on vaccinations and deworming. He is currently 14 hands and growing. We think he may mature at around 15 hands. In his ideal home, he will have an experienced horseperson who has the confidence and authority to teach Rebel manners and provides him with consistent training. For more pictures and information on Rebel, please visit his page: https://www.savethemallhorserescue.com/rebel Please inquire about adopting Rebel at: https://www.savethemallhorserescue.com/contact-us
We received these about a week or so ago... I’m slacking on updates again! Thank you so much to a generous mysterious donor (Amazon didn’t tell us who bought it) for the purchase of two fly masks (which have already been put to good use!) and two beautiful rope halters. The halters will definitely come in handy as a training tool! Thank you so much for your generosity!! ... If you haven't yet gotten a chance to, the horse rescue is still in need of several more things in order to keep our equine fellows comfortable for the rest of the fall and into the winter! Fly masks, fly sheets, fly spray, halters, grooming supplies, buckets, etc. We have created a wish list on Amazon where you can purchase the items and they will directly ship to us. *ADOPTED* Kachina is searching for her forever home! Born in 2015, Kachina is a stocky, approx. 14.1hh unbranded Mustang mare. She is a beautiful frosty pinto color. Kachina is a mustang hailing from the Virginia range in Nevada. Her name means "Spirit dancer". Her parents were rounded up and she was subsequently born in captivity. ... Kachina has been working in the roundpen. She is very responsive. Her movements are agile and quick. Based on how she moves, we think that she may make a good barrel horse. She has taken a saddle pad on her back before. She has not been introduced to the saddle yet, but is ready for the next steps in her training journey! For haltering, sometimes it may take some patience in the beginning but she can be haltered. She is getting better and will continue to get better with consistency. Once the halter is on, she leads and ties (impatiently). When she trusts you, she will allow you to pick up her feet. Kachina can be quite a nervous/cautious lady. She would thrive with an experienced handler and consistent training to build her confidence. Kachina is up to date on vaccinations and deworming.
