Once the south wind kicked up down there it was pretty much impossible to go any direction but north. Called the trip short and got our two token Bluefin Tuna and headed for cover. Just a classic case of the Catalina eddy jacking up the program. Much better weather on the horizon. We turned and burned and got back out there right around dark, needless to say it was game on again. Stopped on three schools that bit pretty damn good. Once we iced everything down and the smoke cleared we had 12 fish from 80-150 lbs for our lucky father son duos. Nighttime operations were in full effect on our last 1.5 day. More rough weather, darkness and unruly 120-180 lb Bluefin Tuna made for an all hands on deck type of deal. After a not so bitchin’ day scouring a rough, cold, and green ocean for just a few Yellows we doubled back and made em pay! We had five fish from 100 to 200 lbs. We got pretty bit up in the dark just before sunrise but had some MAJOR heart breaks going 2-4 on some knuckle busting gaff breaking HAWGS! Once the sun came up we had a pretty steady morning getting bites every hour or so. Pretty epic trip, May has been pretty damn good. We were the last ones to leave the dock and didn’t get into the zone till 04:00. Being late to the party didn’t hurt us that much as we bent the whole boat on 100+ lb Bluefin on our first stop. Once we got all our fish in and tangles untangled we got back on the move. We pushed out to the west in hopes of some smaller grade fish and found some relatively quickly and had a few fun stops on 20 lbers. By that time is was going into late afternoon and the fish were floating. We started hooking more 80-200 lb fish on until we had call it quits. Pretty nautical out there today. That being said, opportunity arose. We got on many a school of Bluefin and only a few few reacted to our sardine offerings. We hooked two and got em both. Jerry is 75 but pulls on fish like he’s 25......We saw incredible sign of all size Bluefin with the majority being over 100. Although it was a little tougher to get a bite this trip the Bluefin still gave up more than handful of opportunities for our group. I’ll say it again RAIL TIME is what works. Epic trip for our group! We had 9 Bluefin from 120-200+, a handful of smaller Bluefin and a very nice pile of Yellowtail. Its as good as it ever gets anywhere in the world as far as I’m concerned. As soon as this next round of wind subsides we are back it until the wheels fall off!

Got home a little early from Mag Bay, that gave me just enough time to go HAWG huntin with the boys before our next round of trips. Beautiful weather, bitchin’ sunsets and big blow outs were had by all! More dead fish..... limits of Yellowtail and Dorado for our last overnight. Slid on an open water school of Dorado that immediately charged the boat and basically jumped in our kill bag. We then covered many miles of warm blue water for very little except for a tiny kelp with a single dorado and a couple skippies. Closer to home we found several large kelps with one holding all you want Yellowtail. We dealt with many moving parts yesterday. Bad forecasting resulted in 25+ knot winds, poaching skiffs and buckled passengers unable to fish due to the amount of chum they were producing. However we managed to find a biting kelp with Yellowfin and hamachi. Very good opportunity to catch either kind as they were eating every sardine we threw in the water. Two shy of limits on the Yellowtail and 8 Yellowfin Tuna for our full day trip.
