David Brown is blind and this is his trainer Jerome Avery guiding him in his run. You can read his lips saying Go David! In my coaching I talk about people ha...ving blind spots in their lives. You need someone like Jerome Avery to guide you. I love this video! I'm definitely that type of Life Coach! See more

Some highlights from the California budget legislation that has been agreed to by legislators and Governor Gavin Newsom: A second round of California stimulus payments to Californians with incomes under $75,000 annually. Payments will range from $500 to $1,100. Regional centers will be getting more service coordinators (in 2022 it appears) and social recreational, camping, educational, and non-medical therapy services are being restored as services that regional centers can f...und (this will start this year). Also, expect to see improvements in programs funded by regional centers, especially employment-related programs. Expect to see improvements in special education, because schools are getting significant funding increases. Free breakfast and lunch for all public school students. Free, universal transitional kindergarten (TK) phasing in over the next few years. Increases in after-school programs. Expect to see improvements in mental health programs, because these programs are getting significant funding increases. Increases in affordable childcare. Increased benefits in welfare programs, like CalWORKS, Medi-Cal, and, we believe, Supplemental Security Income. More affordable housing.

A team of researchers from University of the Azores in Portugal are conducting a research project regarding children with autism and tourism. This research is supporting a larger project, AZORES - ALL IN BLUE (https://azoresallinblue.pt/home-eng.html), designed to promote inclusive tourism, particularly tailored for families with autistic children, in the Azores Islands of Portugal. The Azores are a safe, sustainable, and non-mass tourism European destination in the middle of... the Atlantic Ocean, with a mild climate and exuberant nature (https://www.visitazores.com/en). In order to support the design of a program capable of meeting the travel expectations of families with autistic children, the research team is launching an international survey on the needs, motivations, and concerns of these families in travel situations. Families with autistic children age 3 through 15 years are invited to complete the survey at https://forms.gle/vc3SPJBrhKmqzxW9A . Additional information about the survey is also available at the link.

I think my autism helps me to bypass superficial social masks that people wear and just get to the real human-to-human connection. And I also think that this sc...ares many people. I find many neurotypicals to be pretty timid and obsessed with superficial social creations. They like to say that they "keep it ", but they can't even count to fifty. See more

Judge someone by the content of their character. Do not judge someone based on their differences created by a mental diagnosis. It's not okay to be immoral. It IS okay to be different. We will assertively stand up against stigmatization and discrimination toward mentally-diverse individuals.

SASSNA and our client have reached a resolution with Elk Grove Unified School District in the administrative complaint that our client and us filed with the California Office of Administrative Hearings in November. Our client and us are satisfied with the resolution. A request to dismiss the case has been filed with OAH.

A bit over an hour ago, we got done with a five hour appointment at our office with a parent and her son. In a comfortable setting, we reviewed recently reported progress of the boy in school, including progress on current goals, and one-by-one reviewed in detail a set of newly proposed goals. We discussed everything and engaged with the boy to help us determine how he was functioning in particular academic areas. Most of the time, the boy was sitting nearby in a comfortable ...chair playing our Nintendo Switch system on a large 4K flat-screen. He bounced on our OT ball a little periodically. There is a third IEP meeting for this boy next week. We'll be there and we have been at the first two. We are providing comprehensive education advocacy and consultation in order to assist the parents with improving an IEP that isn't working. We've had a previous appointment with the family at our office similar to tonight's appointment, except we performed an initial case assessment, involving discussion with a parent, engagement with the child, and a comprehensive records review. Our work with our clients is thorough, more thorough than a lot of other providers. And we are very good at we do. And many kids like coming to our office, because they have fun. And what is all of the above financially costing this client? Well, this specific client has chosen to contribute $250 per month for the time period that we are providing services. We don't charge mandatory fees for most of our services. We are a nonprofit organization and we serve everyone regardless of their financial means. We ask clients to make contributions that they choose based on their ability to do so. Some people contribute more than others and some people can't contribute at all. They all get the same high-quality services from us. We think we got a pretty unique and special thing going on here. That's SASSNA.

Sacramento County - Government has just announced that the county is moving back to the worst COVID tier. Here's the impact on schools: "In alignment with California Department of Public Health requirements, schools (all grade levels) that have reopened for in-person instruction, either under a waiver or while Sacramento County was in Red Tier 2 (September 29 November 10, 2020), are permitted to continue to conduct in-person instruction. Schools that have not reopened must ...wait until they are eligible again, either by acquiring a waiver from Sacramento County Public Health (grades TK-6 only) or by waiting until Sacramento County returns to Red Tier 2 for at least two weeks. If a school was implementing a phased re-opening (e.g., only opened grades K-2 for in-person instruction with set plans to phase in grades 3-6) while Sacramento County was in Red Tier 2, the school site may continue their phased re-opening. This is only applicable to individual school sites. If a district has a phased reopening of their schools, the schools in that district that did not open for in person instruction may not reopen until Sacramento County has returned to Red Tier 2 for two weeks. Schools conducting in-person instruction must maintain mitigation measures, including social distancing, face coverings, and sanitization, in compliance with schools guidance from CDPH and Sacramento County Public Health."

Hi. Sacramento Autistic Spectrum and Special Needs Alliance is starving right now. We are crazy busy but most of our clients right now can only afford small contributions. We need to raise approximately $500 (bare minimum) in the next couple of days just to pay some bills. We have a potential big donation we are working on that will resolve our current financial situation, but we need to fill the gap until then. We need your help. Can you contribute to our work? Your money wo...uld be used to fund the current services we are providing to families with low incomes. We are a 501c3 charity and donations are tax deductible. Please use the black donation button on our website at www.sassna.org/join-support-us/ . Donations made through our website get directly to us quickly. THANK YOU.
