I love a good exhale . Truth be told, it took years for me to really anchor into meditation. So it comes as no surprise when a new patient tells me that they do not have a daily practice. . I’ve found that many times it’s because their expectations are unrealistic. Say meditate to a newbie and often their impression is that the goal is to astral project out of their body to enlightenment. (this may be the goal for some of you) but at the beginning, this couldn’t be fur...ther from the intent. . Your only goal when starting out is to sit. Five minutes. Ten minutes. Whatever you can manage to start. You can’t do it wrong. Put your booty down and sit. . Close your eyes and breathe. I always start with a scan at the bottom of my feet and work my way up. Are you holding tension anywhere? Are your shoulders crunched up to your ears? Can you soften it? Can you breathe into it? . At the beginning it’s a check in. It’s a reset. A recognition of where you may be holding the day in your body. A simple slowing down. You will build from there. But to begin just sit. Moments After Finalizing The Lease On Our New Wellness Clinic . Us: We’d like to demo the first wall. Mgmt: Umm- we don’t have the tools for that. Us: That’s ok we brought sledgehammers.... Mgmt: You brought sledgehammers to the lease signing? Us: Yes we want to demo the first wall! Mgmt: No ones ever asked us to do that. Us: Well, we’re not like most people. . . . 2 months ago Iris came into the office and unexpectedly said that she wanted to open a wellness clinic. Before my brain (which had endless plans for this year) could get in the way my heart said I’m clearly doing this with you. 2 months and countless hours of collaboration and negotiation later we are starting to build you a new home. . A clinic with a focus on education and integration, a space to empower healing, an exhale in this frenetic city. . So many exciting things to share with you in the very near future. But for now know that I couldn’t be more grateful for the trust and support over the years that have brought me to this point. It is my absolute honor to be able to grow this for and with you. .
