There was a flurry of activity on the SUMC campus this past Saturday!! Throughout the pandemic, we've found new and creative ways to serve our neighbors. Our large, accessible parking lot gave us the opportunity to continue to safely minister to and serve our community. As grateful as we are for our parking lot, it felt WONDERFUL being able to open the doors to our facilities once again!... Thank you to all of our volunteers who offered our neighbors a helping hand through Naomi's Closet or our free Community Pancake Breakfast! Thank you to the dedicated folks who gathered immediately thereafter to plan out our upcoming FREE Vacation Bible School... a time to welcome in children from all over the county to share God's message of unconditional love. Naomi's Closet (adjusted hours): 1st and 3rd Saturdays Of each month from 8-10 AM. Want to learn more about Naomi's Closet?? Please check out our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Naomis-Closet-293865170729190/ Free Community Pancake Breakfast & Men's Clothing Drive: 1st Saturday of each month from 8-10 AM "Treasured" Vacation Bible School: July 19-23, 9 AM- 12 PM. Good morning, church! Once again, we will be offering two sanctuary worship services at our usual times: 8:15am and 10am. At the 815 service, masks are required - this is to ensure that there is an option for anyone who is unable to get a COVID vaccine to worship safely. At the 10:00 service, masks are optional. Starting this week, no reservation is necessary for either service. Of course, if you are unable to worship with us in person, we'll continue to be on YouTube for our usual virtual worship at noon - click below to watch. Pastor Jaime and others in your church family will be there in the chat!

Our Youth are doing something new!! For several years now, our young people have been wanting to create a podcast. A platform with which they can shine a light on some of the more difficult questions about God and the church. Where they can interview people within our community and get a better understanding of our neighbors. We are thrilled to announce, in honor of Pastor Jaime's ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY with us, they have wrapped up their FIRST EPISODE of their podcast, "Holy... Hesitance"! We are grateful to have such an extraordinary group of young people guiding us! Stay tuned as we eagerly await the publication of their interview with Pastor Jaime!!

Keep alert! For we do not know the time or the hour. Easy enough - but what's this about a bridegroom, and why are ten women standing outside a wedding party? And what exactly does an ancient wedding practice have to teach us about the kingdom of God is today? This week, we get a bit of a history lesson that helps us see that we are not to passively wait for the Kingdom of God on earth, but are called to be beacons for Christ. Once again, worship will premiere at 9am in our new interactive worship-at-home experience LIVE on YouTube. You'll be able to chat with Pastor Jaime, the worship team, and your church family. And if you prefer to watch later, you can still go to YouTube and watch the full service anytime after the premiere!

The Santee United Methodist Reconciling Ministries group is in the process of becoming an official Reconciling Community through the Reconciling Ministries Network. As part of the application process we are required to submit a photo of our group. Those in the congregation who have not been a part of the RM group's regular meetings, but who are supportive of the cause and would like to be included in the photo, please contact Nanette Burrell. A group zoom photo shoot is scheduled for this Wednesday, Nov 11 at 6:30 PM. This isn’t a meeting and should only take about 15 minutes. If you would like your picture included but can’t make the photo shoot, you can send a photo to Nanette. For more information, including the Zoom link, please contact Nanette Burrell at: [email protected]

As we continue on in this year that will forever be emblazoned in history... remembered for its trials and revelations... but also, hopefully, for the incredible love and grace shown between neighbors, we feel this is the perfect opportunity for a community prayer. Please join us as we center ourselves and reflect on our calling: "Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon;... where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen." ~St. Francis of Assisi~

What a fun, SAFE, family-friendly weekend we had at SUMC! It started with a Youth Halloween Party and an outdoor viewing of "The Addams Family" on Friday night, followed up by a scavenger hunt and party for our elementary group (Parking Lot Prophets) on Saturday afternoon, a bonfire and an outdoor movie marathon of "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" and "Hocus Pocus" in the evening, and we wrapped things up with a WONDERFUL "All Saints Day" Drive-In Worship Service and a showing of "Coco" on Sunday evening! With a little creativity and a lot of teamwork, we're finding amazing new ways to safely come together and celebrate life amidst these "curious" times!

Santee UMC 10.09.2020

Don't Forget! Our special "All Saints Day" Drive-In Worship Service will begin at 4:30 this afternoon in the SUMC parking lot. The lot will open at 4:15 PM. Please arrive in your masks so that our greeters can safely welcome you and show you to your parking space. To abide by spacing guidelines and to keep everyone safe, we do require RSVPs for this event. https://m.signupgenius.com/... We can't wait to see you all!

Today, we celebrated All Saints Day Zoom-union (Communion over Zoom) during Coffee Chat. If you would like to be there with us live, you are welcome to sign up for our weekly newsletter and get the coffee chat link, and it will always be the first Sunday of the month following our virtual service. In the meantime, feel free to worship with us through this recorded liturgy! https://youtu.be/gaypzd2C3n8

Santee UMC 02.09.2020

EDIT: the premiere went live early because the YouTube calendar didn’t account for the time change, so unfortunately we won’t have a live chat for the whole service! If you have any prayer requests or people you would like to remember for All Saints’ Day, you can share in the comments here, or send a note to Pastor Jaime to lift up at the drive in service later. Join us as we celebrate the saints that came before on this All Saints' Day and explore how we are witnesses for Christ in the world. As always, worship will premiere on YouTube at 9am. Then, we'll have coffee chat and communion at 10am on Zoom - check your email for details!

Last night, our Youth celebrated Halloween with a party... complete with physically distant pie-eating contests, a donut on a string challenge, a movie, and more! Perhaps the best part... surrounded by the young people and families that she loves so very much, Ms. Jen got to ring a very special bell, signifying the end of her aggressive cancer treatments... and on her 40th birthday, at that!! What a perfect way to close the chapter on that portion of her life and move into a... new decade. The SUMC Youth and Leaders want to wish you a Happy (and safe!!) Halloween! Looking for something fun to do tonight?? Join us in the SUMC parking lot at 5:30 for a special showing of "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown"! All ages are welcome!
