Please see the attached flyers for information if you are interested in hosting a youth experiencing homelessness. Here is a description of the Host Homes Program: The Host Homes Program at Home Start is a community and volunteer-based response to youth homelessness. The hosts who participate in this program are adults who open their homes to youth who are looking for short-term housing resources (up to 12 months) and support(on going case management and wraparound services ...as they work on their employment/education goals). Because we understand that youth experiencing homelessness are best supported when they are able to remain in the communities where they are comfortable, have friends, attend school, and go to work, the goal of the program is to recruit, screen, and provide support to volunteers who have a spare room in their home and are willing to open their homes to young people between the ages of 14-24 in their own communities who are experiencing homelessness or have unstable housing. Volunteer hosts will receive a monthly stipend, training, and ongoing support. The host family can be a friend or family who they already have a connection with and just want additional support or it can be a household that applies through us and will be matched to the youth. We are thrilled to invite you into this partnership. Should you know anyone who is willing to host or an interested youth, or to learn more about this program, please contact our Host Homes Coordinator, Selma Hassane, at [email protected] or (619)782-2239. Interested hosts can also fill out this Host Interest Form and we will reach out shortly.

This collaborative also helps connect residents with the resources they need. If you need to know more about disabled or medical support, Military resources, teen or child programs, reporting crime, or many other topics the Santee Collaborative website would be a great place to start. You can attend the collaborative as a parent or Santee resident. A nice way to get involved in our community! http://www.santeesd.net/Domain/782

This #lighttheworld post is written by one of our youth. We just love hearing his thoughtful idea for sharing words of love at this time of year!! The #LightTheWorld advent calendar’s activity item for today is send a favorite book to a faraway friend. I decided to send a book to my Cousin Nick, who is my mom's godfather and one of the nicest and most charitable guys I know. He has sent me tons of book in the past and so I wanted to return the favor by sending him one today, and by doing so #LightTheWorld! --Crew

There are a few projects on JustServe.org asking for medical supplies and masks, blood donations, or volunteers in clinics, and we suspect there are even more in our community that haven't made it online yet. What a grand thing to know that there are those who have gone before and laid out the way we should walk, teaching those great eternal principles that must be the guiding stars of our lives and of those who come after us. We today can follow their example. The pioneers were people of great faith, of tremendous loyalty, of unthinkable industry, and of absolutely solid and unbending integrity." Gorrdon B.
