You know what better than owning a dental practice? Owning it with a partner who is awesome and fun! Being a dentist, a mother and a business owner is a lot of work. Is it OK to enjoy a morning beverage like coffee or tea? ABSOLUTELY! As a mother of two, a business owner and a dentist, I will never tell my patients not to drink their coffee or tea. Seriously, I need my cup of coffee every morning myself! However, there are coffee and tea habits that can be disastrous to your teeth. Let me list a few: 1 adding sugar, any amount of sugar or creamers with sugar - this is the easy one, we all know sugar contributes to cavities!... 2sipping your drink throughout the morning or afternoon - every time you take a sip of your coffee, your mouth becomes acidic. If you’re sipping on your coffee over 2 hours, your mouth will be constantly acidic for that 2 hour period plus the time it takes it to neutralize. When your mouth is acidic, that acid can soften your teeth making them less resistant to cavities. If you add sugar to the mix, you’re in for double trouble! 3brushing your teeth immediately after you’re done drinking it - this comes back to the acid in your mouth. If your mouth is acidic and your enamel is in its softer state, you can brush away particles of your enamel if you brush too soon. It’s best to drink some water and wait 30 minutes to allow your enamel to return to its normal state and then brush. So enjoy your morning java while it is still hot (or the ice is still in it), if you need to add cream make sure it doesn’t have sugar and wait 30 minutes before you brush your teeth . . . #santarosadentistry #santarosadentist #santarosacalifornia #sonomacountydentist #californiadentist #health #healthyteeth #body #coffee #coffeedrinkers #coffeelovers #tea #morningcoffee #teeth #tooth

Keeping your teeth healthy does not have to be complicated. 1. Make sure you are brushing twice a day for at least 2 minutes each time. Always remember to brush right before going to bed! And while you're at it, give your tongue a little brush as well to remove any debris and bacteria sitting on its surface. ... 2. Floss every day! When you floss you not only remove any food particles that got stuck between your teeth but you also remove a layer of bacteria that is sitting on the surface of your teeth. This bacterial layer contributes cavities and periodontal disease, so don't let it sit around! 3. Rinse with an alcohol-free mouthwash. Preferably one with fluoride. simple steps to a healthy you! . . . #santarosadentistry #santarosadentist #santarosacalifornia #sonomacountydentist #teeth #health #brushyourteeth #floss #healthymouth #body #mouthwash

Does your toothbrush look bent out of shape and frayed? Frayed bristles will not clean your teeth as well and are a good sign that it is time to replace your toothbrush (or the toothbrush head if you're using an electric toothbrush). In addition, you should replace your toothbrush every 3 months or sooner if you have been sick. . .... . #santarosadentistry #santarosadentist #santarosacalifornia #sonomacountydentist #californiadentist #teeth #health #toothbrush #healthyteeth #healthybody #teethforlife #mouth #mouthhealth See more

"Most people grow up learning some basics about cavities and how to avoid them: Just brush twice a day, and don’t forget to floss! Yet, it seems as though many unlucky people follow all of their hygienist’s advice to the letter and still wind up with a load of fillings. Why?"
