Many Californians are looking forward to a three-day weekend this year for Independence Day. Even though people are eager to travel and get together with family... and friends, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is urging motorists to slow down and drive sober this holiday. During the 2020 Independence Day Holiday Weekend, at least 36 people were killed in crashes on California roadways. The CHP also made 738 arrests for DUI of alcohol and/or drugs. Be an MVP this Indpendence Day Holiday and designate a sober driver.

Meet Tug. He went for a run on SR-1 near Hagemann Ranch today. Officer Q was on patrol and drove upon the scene while cars were swerving around him. Officer Q offered Tug a lift and he didn’t need much convincing to jump in the patrol car. The owner was contacted and we’re happy to report Tug is home safe tonight.

Another Sideshow Vehicle Impounded Last night around 10:30pm this vehicle was participating in sideshow activity in Fairfield when CHP Solano attempted to make an enforcement stop. The Dodge fled and led officers on a multi-county pursuit. Officers pursued this Dodge on I-80, Hwy 37, Lakeville Hwy, and N/B US-101 into Santa Rosa. Our patrol vehicles couldn’t keep up with the orange Dodge that reached speeds of 150 MPH, but our CHP airplane had no problem following at that spe...ed. The Dodge exited the freeway and fled onto Fountaingrove Pkwy when the driver finally stopped. The driver was arrested on multiple charges and as you can see in the picture, the Dodge was impounded (for 30 days). Fortunately the Dodge didn’t crash while traveling at such extreme high speeds. So many bad things could’ve happened including causing injury to an innocent person. Don’t run, it’s not worth it. CHP - Golden Gate Division Air Operations See more

Solo Vehicle Fatal Crash off River Road On October 11, 2020, at approximately 4:24pm, Santa Rosa CHP officers were dispatched to a crash on River Road, west of Trenton-Healdsburg Road. A property owner was the reporting party to this crash after discovering a mailbox had been damaged. The property owner then discovered a crashed vehicle down the north side embankment of River Rd and a body lying on the ground near the vehicle. The unidentified subject was pronounced deceased ...at the scene. It was determined this collision occurred several hours prior. The crash was unreported until this time because the gray Hyundai stopped in an area with no visibility from River Rd or from the property. It was determined the Hyundai was driving eastbound on River Rd, west of Trenton-Healdsburg Rd. For unknown reasons at this time, the Hyundai drove off the north side of River Rd. The Hyundai collided with the mailbox and continued down an embankment where it collided with a tree. The male driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was subsequently ejected from the Hyundai. The Hyundai continued down the embankment where it collided with another tree before coming to a stop. This crash remains under investigation including whether the driver was under the influence. If anyone witnessed this collision or the events leading up to it, please call the Santa Rosa CHP office at (707)588-1400. See more

Last month, a concerned citizen contacted our office with information about sideshow activity and illegal exhibition of speed on a public roadway. A red Nissan 350Z was seen driving recklessly and spinning donuts on Gossage Avenue and Magnolia Avenue in Petaluma, and the incident was posted on social media. The CHP initiated an investigation, and petitioned for a court order to tow the vehicle for 30 days if it was seen on a public highway or off-street parking facility. On ...October 10, 2020, a Petaluma Police Department Officer located the Nissan on Petaluma Boulevard North and made an enforcement stop on the driver, which resulted in the vehicle being impounded under the authority of the court order. The CHP and our Sonoma County law enforcement partners are dedicated to combatting street racing and sideshow activity, and we continue to work cooperatively, leveraging all the tools we can, to ensure that those that engage in such reckless unlawful behavior be brought to justice. Today's vehicle impoundment was one example of how we are keeping our streets and highways as safe as we can. We appreciate the help of our partners at the Petaluma Police Department, and we are keeping our eyes open for the next sideshow vehicle we can take off the road.
