Thanks to all who came out to support our pre-season kart race on Sunday. While there were a couple of opening day hiccups, the race day was a success and is a ...great sign for the future of the Kart program. The redesign of the track was based on input from the teams themselves. But the most impressive aspect of the weekend was the support of volunteers and sponsors that made the day possible. I want to thank Jeff Stickler and Kyle Bassett for the countless hours working on the track. Also, Nick Diani provided both tractor work on the pits and valuable resources needed. Doc Wickham from Streamline Garden & Irrigation, and Charlie Jones for help on pre-race cleanup. And of course all my help on race day from participants. Brian Baker and Adam Baker helped on safety. Cara, Kimberley Speed Victor and Danielle Jones who came thru on scoring and front gate. The Willit and Flynn race teams helped with mechanical fixes that kept us going. Robert Phelan from Harvest Rentals in Nipomo provided a strong grader for the reshaping of track. And so many more who helped out to keep the day going. Attention Kart Teams! May 15th Kart races are on! Gates open at 11a with racing from 1pm to 5pm. Kart/Driver is $50. $20 pit passes for all non-drivers and crew. After our second group meeting last night we finalized the schedule, divisions, and rules. We also came up with a plan to divide some of the volunteer work among our group. Sprint Car Racing is back at the Santa Maria Raceway with the July 3rd Doug Fort Classic featuring the USAC/CRA 410 Sprints. It's also the first of four races with the winged California Lightning Sprints. We will be at 100% capacity for the first time since 2019. Due to the cancellation of many race events in the Central Valley due to high heat, we have decided to do a "Beat the Heat" Open Practice this Friday, June 18th from 6pm to 1030pm. $40 pit pass will get you some laps in a more pleasant climate. Pit Gates will open at 5pm. Forecast for Friday evening is 65 degrees. So get your car after work and get in some hot laps in a cool environment!

Some residents of the new development next door are trying to get the county to place severe restrictions on sound and frequency of events at the facility. These restrictions would jeopardize the future of all events at the track. Since 1964, the track has not had any restrictions on sound, curf...ew, or types of events, or frequency of events. This could all change. The track is being accused of being a nuisance to the community (or at least to the new homes built decades after the track was established). The County of San Luis Obispo is giving the public the opportunity to voice support for the track as they decide on whether to allow us to continue to operate. All you have to do is call the county and leave a one-minute to two-minute voicemail message. Its very simple. Call (805) 788-6638 They will ask you for the hearing date: (Nov.10th 1:30pm) They will ask you the agenda item number: (#18) They will need your name and spelling Then you can leave your message, We need your message in by Monday night in order to be entered into the record at the hearing on Tuesday afternoon. We are looking for fans, participants, and local businesses to let the county reps know the benefits to keeping our track viable and available to the public. After all the work to spruce up the pit area we have had someone come in at night and steal our artificial turf. Over $1000 worth of turf taken over several days. And at a time when we are just trying to keep the track alive. All gates were locked, but we followed footprints to the drainage pipe above the pits. They hauled it out by hand to a vehicle parked on Cheater Hill. If any of our fans and teams hear anything or see anything suspicious, please contact SLO Sheriff Dept. They are doing extra patrol at night and will be looking for unoccupied cars parked along Vista Del Rio overnight. Thanks for all who are keeping an eye out.

This Saturday, Sept 12 we will be having a Kart Track Test and Tune. All Mini-Dwarfs, Flat Karts, and QRC Outlaw Karts are welcome. Gates open at 1pm. Karts on track at 3pm. Kart Drivers are $35 and crew/family pit passes are $10. Face coverings and social distancing measures will be enforced. Should be a great day to get some time on the Kart track.
