Friends, I pass this message along from Irene Greaves: It is with a heavy heart that I announce Bradley's passing; after a courageous battle with cancer, he succumbed on Tuesday, May 19th, 2015. We are overwhelmed by the love and support we have received from family, friends and co-workers. It is comforting to see all the lives that Bradly touched and we thank you all for your prayers and kind words.... Services will take place at Eternal Valley Memorial Park (23287 Sierra Hwy, Newhall, CA 91321) Wednesday, May 27 at 2:00 p.m. A repast will be held following the services at Santa Clarita Seventh Day Adventist Church (24436 Valley Street, Newhall, CA 90321) Blessings, Pastor Greg

Thank you to Peter Thornburgh and Milton Hinkle for covering so capably for me this past Sabbath! I am so grateful for their ministries, and abilities to step in and cover when things like funerals call me away. Thanks, also, to our Constituency reps, who did an amazing job conducting responsible business in an informed and Christlike manner! Great to have a team with me as we welcome new officers into the Conference. Thanks, finally, to all of you who make Santa Clarita SD...A an absolutely great place to be - week, after week, after week! Grace and Peace! Pastor Greg

Grateful! That's what I am! Grateful! This past Sabbath, we took precious time in our worship service to look at a fresh short video featuring students at CVAS, our constituent elementary school. Beautiful photography! Very inspiring! Our school is so much improved! Don Tucker shared his story, recounting a time in his life when he and his family were so very poor. Yet out of poverty, God provided for him to go to Walla Walla College, meeting his needs through the self-sacrif...ice of others. He offered to pay it forward, saying he'd match any one gift to CVAS worthy students up to $1000.00. Those of you who were with us Sabbath gave so generously. We were able to take advantage of that offer, and raised over $4,500.00 for worthy students this next year at CVAS! It's awesome to see our God still provides. Grateful! That's what I am! Grateful! Happy Earth Day! a couple days late . . . . Did you know this past week saw the coming and going of Earth Day? Born on April 22, 1970 following the devastating massive oil spill off the coast of Santa Barbara in 1969, Earth Day has become a global movement of environmental concern. I didn't sign any petitions. I didn't write my governmental representatives about issues that ultimately affect the planet. I didn't join any celebrations, parades, protests, or movements. I didn...'t donate to any preservation or environmental causes, (though I have a small amount automatically charged my credit card for Tree People every month!). I didn't change my showering or watering habits, or use biodegradable soaps in my laundry, or refuse to use plastic bags at the supermarket, or ask restaurants I went to to use only organic produce, or biodegradable "to go" containers instead of styrofoam. Indeed, I bought produce packaged in plastics, and I used rainforest harvested disposable chopsticks at my favorite sushi restaurant! But that's not all. I didn't walk or ride my bike to local stores instead of taking my car. I didn't plant anything that might give me some food this summer. I didn't try to save energy. I didn't even get the slow leak in my bathroom sink fixed. I didn't do anything. I thought about preaching an Earth Day sermon about the goodness of creation, and our responsibility to care for the planet and all life on it this Sabbath. But then I looked at my record of action and thought twice. I recently read that very few Americans see the environment as an issue of universal concern that transcends party politics. I would suggest most Adventists don't take their cues on the subject of the environment from scripture, science, or even logic either! Sadly,it's an issue of party politics for us too. And so I wrestle with what it might mean to be a friend of God, a Christian leader, and good citizen in light of the mess our planet and its inhabitants are in. Thankful we have Jesus, who is our only true hope. May he also be our guide. Pastor Greg

Dear Friends, In meetings held this June, the West Region Committee nominated me for the office of West Region Director, a full-time administrative post. This recommendation was confirmed and voted June 23 by the Executive Committee of the Southern California Conference. At that vote, I officially became the new West Region Director. It's with very mixed emotions that I have chosen to accept this role. It's been an impossibly difficult choice because I have never enjoyed my w...ork as pastor more than with all of you, and because of my loyalty to Elder Roethler these past 11 years. He's been a wonderfully gracious friend through all this. I have so enjoyed working with you, being your pastor more than you can know. You’re amazing! And a richly gifted congregation. Words cannot express my gratitude for my time with you, and all that you’ve allowed me to bring to my work, and all I have learned from you in the process. I am so thankful. God has been so good to me! I love that so many of you are personally committed to God and church, and willing to serve and volunteer. I hope you’ll take every opportunity to assist our church through this transition. Nominating Committee will be formed tomorrow, and your willingness to volunteer will make a big difference through this transitional season. Thanks in advance for your help! I pray God will grow you in new and exciting ways as this chapter on my leadership ends, and we explore the what next? for Santa Clarita together. Some future pastor will be incredibly blessed to serve with you. Time now for you to begin to pray that God will send the pastor we need to go from where we are now, to where God would have us go next. My ministry will transition over the next month from church to Conference Office. While I am now Region Director, I will still be your pastor as I transition out. I am working on a preaching schedule for Santa Clarita through August. And the Region will eventually provide either a part-time or interim pastor until a permanent replacement can be found. God will lead. With Grace, Peace, Love, Tears and Tremendous Respect, Pastor Greg
