A week of gratitude. As Thanksgiving approaches, we are grateful to Joe Coito, who produced this race for 25 of the last 31 years. Joe has always brought a level of honesty and integrity with him and has preserved and protected the heart and soul of the event. Thank you, Joe for the legacy you built.

We just received the following note and pix from her: "Celebrating SB Virtual Tri 1 mile ocean swim... just my 6th time ever! My daughter kept watch on everything esp the swim and run. Virtual event participant Juliet Ellinger send us this note and picture. "Attempting a triathlon? The thought was intimidating. Until my daughter's teacher, Anna Franey - an experienced triathlete, encouraged me to give it a shot. At 40 years young, I quickly leapt from running my first 5k to completing my first, then second (Santa Barbara Tri) all in the same year. I am grateful for my dynamite, badass tri-partner and friend who has helped me venture to continue challenging ...myself. Some bonus shots sent to us by the lovely Anita Chamberlain (wife of Lee Carter). These are priceless and I so wish we could have celebrated their 25th anniversary this year. Next year it is... Nothing - and we mean NOTHING is going to stop Carol Hunt from making her mark on our event. She keeps making choices to commit to her sport, health and fitness. We're proud to call her a multi-decade repeat participant. Here are her notes from this years' vitual event: (and some fun pix too) "So I swam laps in a 25 yard pool to get my swim time , used a spin bike for the bike portion and lumbered along my neighborhood for the 2 mile run. Without transition times and the trek from the ocean to transition, my overall time is quite different this year. I am really looking forward to 2021, seeing friends and celebrating the race together! (Photos were taken in my back yard.I used my 2019 bib and swim cap since I haven’t gotten my race packet yet.)"

Athlete profiles: Kicking off the final weekend of our event by highlighting 3 amazing local SB residents who have supported us for what seems like forever. Between the 3 of them they have gotten married at our race, sponsored our race, volunteered for our race, completed our race (dozens of times) and promoted our cause without prompting. Athlete highlight: Satomi, Kathy and Betty kicked butt yesturday. I received the following via email from Satomi. "I did all 3 events with my friends Kathy and Berry yesterday. We put on body marking, and swam 1 mile at Kimball park pool at 6:15 am. After that we drove to Santa Barbara, put on our race bib, did a 34 mile bike ride and a 10 mile run in brutally hot weather on the race course. I improved my time in swimming and bike, but running was 5 mins slower than last yea...r. But I have an excuse, the day was super hot. I ‘m so happy to finish safe and with a good time. Thanks to my friends and family for cheering me on and supporting me. Thank you for training with me, Kathy and Betty. Thank you, Santa Barbara Triathlon. I will be back. See you all next year!
