The Divine Woman: a Symposium November 5th, 2016, 10am-3pm The Divine Woman appears in Egyptian, Hebrew, Early Christian and Latter-Day Saint Theology. She is known by many names, Hathor, Asherah, the Lady, the Mother of the Lord and Heavenly Mother. She is often associated with the symbol of the tree and offers her help to initiates on their way to the presence of Deity.... Three well known authors and speakers have been asked to discuss the Divine Woman: Margaret Barker is a world renowned scholar. She holds a Doctor of Divinity from Cambridge University. She developed an approach to Biblical Studies known as Temple Theology. Her work focuses on the Temple worship of the Hebrews in the first temple period and how Christ and the Early Christians restored these ideas. Her latest work is entitled the Mother of the Lord. John Thompson obtained a Ph.D. in Egyptology from the University of Pennsylvania. He is presently chaplain at Harvard University. He has published many articles including the Lady at the Horizon: Egyptian Tree Goddess Iconography and Sacred Trees in the Israelite Scriptureand Temple Theology. Alyson Von Feldt obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and a Masters degree in Organizational Behavior from BYU. She is a strategy and organization design consultant and Owner/President of Crimson Corporation. Her publication Does God Have a Wife? Review of William G. Dever, Did God Have a Wife? and her lecture Wisdom in Restoration Scripture both explore LDS theology about the Divine Woman.
