THE GREAT WALL OF LA: This epic Community Mural by Judy Baca was a massive public engagement project, involving hundreds of volunteers. Baca’s creative vision helped preserve local history & transform an underserved community. La Cultura Cura! https://youtu.be/tJRL_AhQ3u4
OUR STATE PROTECTS MURALS: The California Art Preservation Act (link below) gives credit to the lead artist who’s vision drove the aesthetic design of a piece. All murals are collective projects, with many folks involved in coordinating, funding, feeding the crews involved, yet creative credit still goes to the lead artist. A great example is the largest community mural project in California, The Great Wall by Judy Baca. Hundreds of volunteers and community members were involved in the massive project, but full creative credit still goes to artist Judy Baca. Any less is an affront to Artists & the Arts field. Murals should not be battlegrounds for clout. Viva los Artistas y la Gente! https://www.sfartscommission.org//california-art-preservat
