Help us extend a warm welcome to our newest Chief Ranger, Matt Roland at the nation’s first national monument! Matt has a degree in Park and Recreation Manageme...nt and brings with him more than 20 years of experience with NPS visitor and resource protection. He has been a Type 1 law enforcement officer since 2003, and is a graduate of the NPS Generating Organizational Advancement and Leadership (GOAL) Academy. In his off time, Matt is an avid bird nerd, loves playing guitar, backpacking, and is a proud owner of an extensive comic book collection. Matt says, I’m very excited to join the staff at Devils Tower National Monument. Everyone I've met here values the role they play in accomplishing the National Park Service's mission of conserving the culture, nature, and history of this amazing place. I'm really looking forward to collaborating with the park's team and its neighbors to ensure the continued protection of both its resources and the many people who come to visit." We’re all looking forward to having Matt as an asset on the Devils Tower team. Be sure to tell him congratulations if you see him during your visit! Kudos to US Park Rangers of Crater Lake National Park for their multi-year, multi-agency poaching investigation that culminated earlier this month with the conv...iction and sentencing of the responsible person. Working alongside rangers were Special Agents of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Oregon State Police Fish & Wildlife Division. Read the full story at go.usa.gov/xsbJe "Crater Lake National Park is protected as a safe-haven from hunting," stated park officials. "To maintain this status, it takes cooperation from multiple state and federal agencies, and the help of concerned citizens. If you see or hear something, say something." If you see something suspicious in any National Park Service location, or if you have information that could aid an investigation, stay safe and tell us about it. We understand that it may take time to reach park personnel and/or areas with cell or internet service. Talk to any NPS employee for help in reporting suspicious activity, or submit a tip for any NPS site anytime. We received roughly 3,000 tips in 2020 concerning incidents across the National Park System, including some for public lands administered by partner agencies. You don't have to tell us who you are, but please tell us what you know: go.usa.gov/xPd8J CALL or TEXT the ISB Tip Line 888-653-0009 ONLINE form www.nps.gov/ISB > "Submit a Tip" EMAIL [email protected] EMERGENCY dial 9-1-1 [NPS file photo of a visitor center in Crater Lake National Park.] ISB: the Investigative Services Branch of the National Park Service www.nps.gov/ISB #RecreateResponsibly #USParkRangers #SpecialAgent #PublicLands #NPS #stoppoaching

They protect rare local wildlife, restore native plant communities and creeks, manage invasive plants, lead volunteer stewardship projects, combat climate change, design maps to improve decision-making and MUCH more! Following a 6.5 month POST certified academy, our new Officers go through a 5 month FTO (Field Training Officer) program, similar to many local agencies. Durin...g FTO, new Officers are paired with experienced Officers to learn how to apply their academy knowledge to real situations, get familiar with the vast area we patrol, handle calls for service, and conduct proactive enforcement. It's our birthday! On October 27, 1972, we became officially known as Golden Gate National Recreation. But these past 48 years are just a piece of the story of ...this land. Billion year old sandstone, basalt and radiolarian chert became unearthed due to tectonic shifts to form the San Francisco Bay. Thousands of years of Coast Miwok, Yelamu and Ohlone people living amongst its over 19 distinct ecosystems and 3,000+ plant and animal species. A couple centuries of colonialism, gold-rushin', agriculture, a major city, military expansion, and 1 Golden Gate Bridge later... and here we are! So today of all days we want to remind you that this is YOUR park. Your special place. Share your stories, memories, photos, experiences with us below! #GOGA48
