I strongly support the First Amendment and the people’s right to protest, but if these actions become violent or shift into lawlessness, then swift and decisive... action will be taken to protect life, protect property, and maintain civil order. This will be accomplished in a fair, firm, and impartial manner, in accordance with the law and 21st century policing concepts. We the people can exercise our First Amendment rights peacefully, without the need for violence and destruction. -Sheriff Alex Villanueva https://youtu.be/V8udIVAi2I8

credit: @scvsar... Found the Missing Hiker Safe in the Angeles National Forest Los Angeles County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Teams (SAR) were successful in safely locating missing hiker Rene Compean today, Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at approximately 3:45 p.m., in the Angeles National Forest.... Mr. Compean was reported missing yesterday, Monday, April 12, 2021 at approximately 6:00 p.m. SAR Teams were activated and immediately started to search for Rene in the Mt. Waterman area. They were worried for the missing hiker since it was getting dark and cold. They searched throughout the night without success and a new team was assembled first thing this morning to continue the search. Unfortunately, Rene did not have his "location" on for his phone, so team members were unable to get his location code from the photo. We were able to send the photo out to the media and on social media platforms hoping someone would recognize the area in the photo and call us to help. SAR Team members were able to communicate with a member of the community who is also an avid hiker in the Angeles National Forest. He shared information he knew about the area pictured in our posts. Our Air5 started to search in the area of Twin Peaks East and Triplet Rocks where they flew low, and close to the mountain. Through the fog they found Rene safe. He was airlifted to meet with our rescuers and pose for a quick picture (included). LASD wants to thank everyone that pulled together and helped us find Rene safe and sound so quickly. We greatly appreciate the many phone calls, emails and social media posts with information.

Photo sent in from a lost hiker to his friend Monday evening after getting lost in the My Waterman area. While some decide to turn location services off on mobile devices at times for security/safety, it’s important to turn them ON when going hiking, ESPECIALLY alone so you can be located should you get lost or disoriented. Also make sure your mobile device is fully charged. If it is approaching sundown and you are unable to return to your starting point, notify someone and/...or call 911 immediately The hiker was successfully rescued Tuesday afternoon. Details on the rescue coming in the next post #SAR #SearchAndRescue #LASD #LASDSAR

Our LASD Lost Hills Family recently suffered another loss. The loss of Deputy Michael Treinen who served as the Training officer for the reserves there. Deputy Treinen faithfully served the citizens of Los Angeles County for over 30 years, spending the majority of that time assigned to Lost Hills Station. Deputy Treinen trained many of our now seasoned deputies that continue to patrol our jurisdiction. He finished his service at Lost Hills Station as the homeless liaison fo...r the City of Malibu and as mentioned above, also the training officer for reserve deputies before retiring last year. Deputy Treinen was beloved by his community and by those who worked alongside him. Rest in Peace Mike, your service, humility and quiet strength will never be forgotten. #thankyouforyourservice @lasd_lhs @thelocalmalibu @malibudailynews @acornnewspaper @TheMalibuTimes

A first responder is not just a deputy, not just a firefighter, not just an officer, but those who come together during times of need to do what they are traine...d to do. Respond. Assist. Provide safety. Santa Clarita Station deputies, LA County Firefighters, California Highway Patrol officers, and members of the Search and Rescue team from both Santa Clarita Valley and Montrose, came together to help rescue a driver whose vehicle went 100ft over the side of Sand Canyon Tuesday night. A man was rescued six hours after his vehicle plunged over the side of Sand Canyon Road overnight. The incident unfolded shortly before 12:30 a.m. near Bear Div...ide, south of Santa Clarita city limits when a passing motorist hear a horn honking and shouts for help. The motorist called 911 which triggered a rope rescue response from the Los Angeles County Fire Department and teams from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station, Santa Clarita Valley Search & Rescue Team, LASD - Montrose Search and Rescue Team, CHP - Newhall and the American Medical Response Copter 16 was also dispatched in hoist configuration in case an aerial rescue was required. A firefighter geared up to rappel down a hillside to the crash site. He was tethered to engine 123 and sent down to the man in distress. After making contact with the man, the firefighter secured him to a rope. A team of firefighters teamed up with deputies and CHP officers to pull them both up. After several minutes, the man was top side and safe. It was determined the man had crashed six hours earlier and had hoped someone would hear him. They did.

MAX HUNTSMAN OMITS THE FACTS ONCE AGAIN October 5, 2020 Today, I learned of the latest Office of Inspector General (OIG) report. ... Conspicuously absent from the report is the fact the OIG had multiple opportunities to address the Banditos issue during the four years under my predecessor but chose to remain silent. This is because his job as a political appointee is to do whatever the Board instructs him to do. Mr. Huntsman now claims the past is the present, while willfully omitting all of the progress which has been made. His actions are purely politically driven and an attempt to undermine the reputation of the Department. The report alleges investigators did not conduct a thorough investigation into the Kennedy Hall deputy on deputy fight. This is false. Both criminal and administrative investigations were conducted where investigators interviewed over 70 involved parties and witnesses in the case. In addition, this case was submitted to the District Attorney’s Justice System Integrity Division (JSID) for their review and their office concluded there was insufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt. The facts are that immediately after taking office, I relieved the East Los Angeles Station captain of his command, overhauled the entire leadership of the station, and transferred 36 personnel. In February of 2020, I became the first and only sheriff to successfully implement a policy specifically addressing employee groups which violate the rights of other employees or members of the public. 3-01/050.83. Employee Groups which Violate Rights of Other Employees or Members of the Public (http://pars.lasd.org/Viewer/Manuals/10008/Content/14944) On August 13, 2020, at the conclusion of the Kennedy Hall fight between deputies investigation, I held a press conference to publish the results of the investigation for the public. Twenty-six deputies involved in that early morning fight were either suspended or terminated. As has become his pattern, Mr. Huntsman seems to have once again intentionally omitted facts which do not further his political agenda. Please view our August 13, 2020, press conference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEg6Gzilpt4&feature=youtu.be

11 year old Max Durfee and his 8 year old brother Carson decided this past weekend that they needed to do something to raise money to help the injured @lasdtran...sit Deputies that were attacked at a @metrolosangeles train station on Saturday 9/12. They came up with a clever idea of making craft sodas and selling them on the corner near their home. 2 days and several hundred customers later, they had surpassed their $300. goal and sold over $1100. worth of product. Today, with the news cameras from @knbc4 and @abc7la rolling, they presented their donation directly to @lacosheriff. A grateful and frankly taken aback Sheriff Villanueva humbly accepted the hard earned donation and praised the boys and their parents for their generosity and civic mindedness. Keep it up boys. To those protesting at South LA Sheriff’s Station: We support the community wanting to protest, to peacefully exercise their 1st Amendment rights. However, we... are concerned there are individuals from outside of the community, and state, wanting to incite riots. Those individuals have already committed acts of vandalism, looting and assaults utilizing rocks, pipes and mortars. Everyone’s public safety is our priority. If you are in the area, please be aware of your surroundings so that you are not hurt by those inciting violence. #StaySafe
