SMFCSD seeks an interested community member to serve on the District’s Equity Task Force. The Board of Trustees believes an Equity Agenda outlining clear priorities for the District will establish a holistic and objective framework to guide the allocation of resources, improve District and school performance, foster equitable student achievement goals and promote transparent communication. Since the inception of the Equity Task Force, members have been highly engaged in deve...loping recommendations for improving processes related to staffing, support for LGBTQ+ students and academic programming. This year those initiatives will continue and members will also work closely with our community to conduct listening forums with our students, staff and families to improve our discipline and safety practices and redefine our relationship with our Police Departments. Representation on the Equity Task Force includes students, parents/guardians, classified staff, certificated staff, administrators and community members, and appointees serve a two-year term. The current open community member position is designated for someone who is not currently a parent/guardian of a student or a member of the District staff. All openings are filled by appointment by the Equity Task Force Leadership Team. All applicants will be contacted by a member of the Equity Task Force Leadership Team and selected individuals will be invited to an interview. If you or someone you know would like to be considered for the open community seat on the SMFCSD Equity Task Force, please complete an application by Friday, October 30, 2020. Application: https://forms.gle/dfEHk1fyxYmJDH578 Please see the District’s Equity Task Force web page for more information: http://www.smfcsd.net//superintende/equity-task-force.html

We’re thankful for Jessica Notte, Assistant Principal at Borel Middle School about being a middle school AP. Conversations with kids shape lives and I love it.
We continue our celebration of the Week of the Administrator with thoughts from Rosemary Wood, Principal of North Shoreview Montessori. Thank you, Rosemary! This is my photo from our recent Picture Day. Picture Day reminded me how fortunate I am to be part of the North Shoreview Montessori community as well as the San Mateo-Foster City School District. I am part of a caring community that values the hard work that is happening to make sure Distance Learning is the best it can be for our children. I love being part of NSM and SMFCSD. I appreciate the kindness, smiles, and laughter that I get to share with everyone. Thank you!
We’re excited to hear from Aleyda Barrera-Cruz, Principal of Sunnybrae Elementary School, about why she is a principal: Two weeks ago, our first graders asked me the same question during a virtual interview: "Why are you a principal?" I answered that I wanted to work with all our students and teachers in the school to help them. For me, being a school administrator is a moral calling to help change the educational outcomes for students who have historically not been served by our system and help teachers reach every student with their work.
