San Mateo County represents Firefighters and Transport Paramedics from Daly City to East Palo Alto and from Pacifica to San Mateo. These groups are broken up into 9 Districts, each with their own personal relationship with their community. Because of COVID 19, Menlo Park Firefighters have had to make significant changes to their annual Toy and Food Drive. We just got off the phone with our publisher and unfortunately we will have to close down our book order on that Thanksgiving night in order to have them sent to us prior to Christmas. So, if you are so inclined you still have 2 days to purchase the Cookbook from the Union’s website (more funds make it into the foundation). If not you can purchase the book directly from our publisher or from Amazon.

A response to the WSJ piece...

Menlo Park Firefighters want to thank everyone who has donated funds to their food drive online and sponsored a child. Even with all the community support we were still 32 children short of the 419 child objective as of last night. However, that all changed when the ‘East Palo Alto Police Officers Association’ stepped to the plate at brought us home by sponsoring the remaining 32 children. We love to banter with our brothers and sisters who wear blue on the Law Enforcement... side of the house (everyone knows they secretly wish to be firefighters). But seriously, over the past decade we have watched their profession be plagued with bad press, poor public opinion and attacks (verbal and at times even physical). There is no doubt that Police Officers currently have a far tougher time just doing their job. Thank you East Palo Alto Police Officers. We just want to say ‘hats off to our heroes.’ You all have golden hearts.

All, Our membership just received the very unfortunate and untimely news that we are facing a 2.05 million dollar budget cut that is expected to be approved by Redwood City Council on Monday the 26th of October during the scheduled council meeting 1900 hours. This cut is certain to include the closure of E9 (estimated at 1 year currently). Our request is that if you live or know folks that live in the communities of Redwood City and/or San Carlos that we encourage them to spe...ak out immediately and at the upcoming council meeting against the closing of an engine or modification of essential services. Please remind them that we are currently in the middle of Fire Season as well as a Pandemic. E9 remains one of the busiest companies in san Mateo County at nearly 3000 runs per year. The alternative model is to have Truck 9 respond in its place, of course leaving our ever expanding downtown district without a pumping apparatus and making the truck unreliable to its already expanded district that includes San Carlos and Woodside. It should also be noted that this is likely to affect all of our neighboring agencies by mutual aid dependence and increasing response times in all of our communities! Great news for Fresno Fire

For the past 20 years Menlo Park Firefighters have worked with the Fire District, the Stanford Park Hotel and the mid Peninsula Jr League to flip pancakes during the Annual Pancake Breakfast. Due to COVID-19 there will be no event this year. However, the work the Alicia Ann Ruch Burn Foundation still needs to get done. Please donate what you can to make sure that happens.

Any help for the Homestead of one of our firefighters would be greatly appreciated.

Tonight remember ....On this night...19 years ago, 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning tomorrow. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift of saving lives. None of them saw past 10:00 am Sept 11, 2001. In one single moment... life may never be the same. As you live and enjoy the breaths you take today and tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted.
