It is with a heavy heart that The Riverside Police Officers' Association informs you of the passing of Riverside Police Detective Ronel Newton. Detective Newton succumbed to his latest battle with cancer late last night, October 14, 2020, at Kaiser Hospital in Riverside, California. Please help us support his family and friends through this difficult experience. Donate Today: https://rpoanewton.firstresponderprocessing.com/ Detective Newton is the second Riverside Police Det...ective to pass away from cancer in 2020 and his passing comes only 55 days after the passing of Detective Aaron Brandt on August 20, 2020. This is another tremendous loss to our Law Enforcement family in a year which has proven to be one of the most difficult in recent times. Please keep Detective Newton's family, friends, and all of Law Enforcement in your prayers. ~ Riverside Police Officers' Association Board of Directors The RPOA has partnered with the National 9-99 Police And Sheriff Foundation, a registered 501c3 organization. Vote YES on Measure VV to protect vital city services!!
On August 6, 1993, Nathan Sims shot Long Beach Police Sergeant Abel Dominguez during a traffic stop. Abel was gravely injured but ultimately survived the attack. Abel suffered catastrophic injuries resulting in permanent disabilities. On November 10, 2020, Sims will be going before the Parole Board again for consideration of an early release from his life sentence. We need your help in opposing this early release. Sims has shown no remorse, nor has he taken any responsibility... for his crimes. Please Join Us In Our Opposition to Mr. Sims' Release: https://oneclickpolitics.global.ssl.fastly.net/messag/edit It is imperative that we show our support for the Dominguez family as well as make it clear to the Parole Board that we believe Nathan Sims still presents a danger to society and should serve out the term of life in prison as prescribed by the sentencing court. We kindly ask that you submit the attached letter via this platform to the Board of Parole.

Contact: Michael Olivera San Leandro Police Officers' Association Email: [email protected] San Leandro Police Officers’ Association Expresses Condolences to Family, Friends of Steven Taylor--... Show Support for Officer Jason Fletcher, Charged with Voluntary Manslaughter by Alameda County DA Arraignment of Officer Fletcher to be held Tuesday, Sept. 15. The San Leandro Police Officers’ Association today released the following letter/statement expressing sympathy to the family and friends of Steven Taylor and supporting fellow Officer Jason Fletcher: Dear San Leandro Community, As you are most likely aware, on April 18, 2020, San Leandro Police Officer Jason Fletcher responded to an emergency call for service, culminating in the shooting death of Steven Taylor. This incident unfolded after a call for service by store employees and was a consequence of Mr. Taylor wielding a baseball bat in a violent and erratic manner. Although the San Leandro Police Officers’ Association (SLPOA) acknowledges that any loss of life in our community is tragic and we extend our condolences to Mr. Taylor’s family, friends, and loved ones, we also ask the community to join us in our support of Officer Fletcher and his family. Our Police Officers value the sanctity of life and have taken an oath to protect this community. While we wish that every call for service could end peacefully, in our mission to safeguard the community, officers are sometimes left with no option but to make a split-second decision to use deadly force to defend themselves and the public. Although District Attorney Nancy O’Malley has charged Officer Fletcher with voluntary manslaughter, we are steadfast in our belief that this charge is politically motivated and legally deficient. While the District Attorney has mischaracterized the shooting as a failure to attempt de-escalation options, we are confident that the evidence will establish that this incident was an unfortunate example of de-escalation techniques simply proving to be ineffective. The SLPOA and its members support and believe in constitutional policing. We dedicate our lives to ensure liberty and justice for everyone. We believe in fairness and justice and the rule of law for everyone. We hope and believe the criminal justice system will protect and preserve Officer Fletcher’s rights in the same manner it should of all citizens.
