We are seeking new members to join the San Jose Peace and Justice Center Coordinating Council! The Coordinating Council helps direct the activities and affairs of the San José Peace and Justice Center in partnership with the Center Director and staff. Collectively, this group makes decisions and mediates difficulties that arise. Individually, the members are dedicated and valued volunteers. The Center operates with minimal staff so Coordinating Council members take a larger volunteer role within the organization, committing to 8 to 10 hours per month.... https://sanjosepeace.org/join-the-sjpjc-coordinating-counc/

By Grace T., SJPJC Volunteer On June 19th, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger of the Union Army arrived to Texas to inform the people that the Civil War had ended and slavery was now abolished. However, this information was relayed to enslaved people two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had actually been passed, exemplifying the delayed justice this country continues to show.... https://sanjosepeace.org/make-juneteenth-a-national-holiday/

Every night when the clock hits 8:30pm, it was the time for the news segment, a time for another Palestinian tragedy. In my child mind I would think to myself: Is this the one? Is this the tragedy that would finally get the world moving to help us end this misery? Does the world know what’s happening? Is everyone around the world watching the news? Silence. Silence was the answer to all my questions. Silence was the world’s answer to all what was happening. https://buff.ly/3bDGdBZ?

Binyamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, has a whole lot to gain from this assault among other things, it may keep him out of jail. More broadly, Israel’s strategic military planners have been waiting for another attack on Gaza. And for Israel’s arms manufacturers, assaulting Gaza is what the leading Israeli daily newspaper Ha’aretz has called a cash cow. https://buff.ly/3fnh1Rn

$2 billion a day. $23 million an hour. $23,000 a second! That’s the amount that the US forever wars are gobbling up from our national budget. According to the National Priorities Project, military spending accounted for more than 53% percent of the federal discretionary budget. At a time when our human needs for Medicare for All, full employment, funding a Green New Deal are greater than ever, it’s way past time to cut the Pentagon budget.... http://sanjosepeace.org/save-the-date-sat-mar-20/

March 5, 2003 -- Anti-war protesters line Stevens Creek Blvd in front of Valley Fair Mall On March 20 2003, the US launched the horrendous criminal invasion and occupation of Iraq. By Paulina Thurmann, senior at Gonzaga University Image of Loretta Ross On October 13, 2020, my day-to-day approach to ‘doing’ social justice changed. I’m a student at Gonzaga University, a Jesuit institution in Washington, with a major in sociology and minors in leadership and social justice, so tackling injustice through a variety of approaches is no new topic to me. But occasionally, I come across something particularly revolutionary, a novel perspective or ideaand when I hear it, I know it. [ 692 more words ] https://sanjosepeace.org/cancel-call-out-culture/
