San José's fireworks ordinance expands liability to the social host or property owner of a gathering where fireworks are used, holding them liable for emergency response costs due to illegal fireworks.... Yesterday San José Officers, one on his 7th day on the job, responded to assist @SJFD with a residential fire. They assisted with an unresponsive elderly female and immediately began giving her CPR. With the holidays are upon us, unfortunately, thieves will be on the lookout for crimes of opportunity. Reduce your risk of becoming a victim with a few simple vehicle crime prevention tips: Park in a well-lit area. Always roll up vehicle windows and lock all doors. Do not leave valuables of any kind in your vehicle, when possible. If you must leave valuables in your car, stash them out of sight BEFORE you reach your destination. ... Place your electronics in airplane mode or turn off the Bluetooth/Wi-Fi option, then power off your electronic devices. Put away devices, cords, and other electronic accessories before you get to the parking lot. For more information on crime prevention tips during the holidays, please visit www.sjpd.org. We often highlight the outstanding arrests our Street Crimes Unit makes. Of equal importance is building strong community relationships. Yesterday members of the unit visited a family in need and dropped off a turkey, sides, fixings, and deserts. No one orders or asks them to do this, this is pure generosity and compassion. Thanks to their efforts this family will have a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner.

Slowing the spread of COVID-19 takes community cooperation and self-compliance with health orders. It continues to be SJPD policy not to conduct enforcement stops based on shelter in place or other heath orders; however, that doesn't negate individuals' or businesses reasonability to comply with the state mandated curfew. The Department will respond to calls for service regarding gatherings and violations of the health order. Santa Clara County has set up a hotline and websi...te for reporting businesses, events, or other activities in violation of heath orders. 1-866-870-7725 https://aca-prod.accela.com/sccgoveh/Welcome.aspx
