Our quiet and gentle 8 year-old boy 'Gio' has been here for 3 months. He is somewhat shy but is a favorite of staff and volunteers. He gets along with other calm dogs like himself and as you can see is truly a sweet soul! Please help us share his video... https://youtu.be/AlfZXxNQSDY

Lucky for this little guy one of our ACC staff members was curious about a suitcase left in front of our shelter. When they opened it they found a very dehydrated Canadian gosling that didn't look like it could survive much longer. We wasted no time transporting this poor beautiful sweetheart to www.wcsv.org for immediate care. We shake our heads and ask the same questions all shelters across the country ask every day. "Why would someone do this to a living creature?" WHY? We understand that people have animals they don't want anymore or can no longer care for - but please when you drop them off - give them some air and a fighting chance. #SupportYourLocalMunicipalShelters-#WeTakeThemALL

We ask that vet clinic assistants commit weekly to at least one 3-hour shift (longer shifts are available). Animal experience is required. We have 3 Senior Dogs who have been here for many many weeks. We would dearly love to find foster homes so they can get a break from living in a shelter. The first is 'Cute Joe' who we featured in a post a couple of weeks ago. Second is our loveable guy 'Hootch', who was adopted from us several years ago, but has since lost his home and is now with us again. And the third one is Bernadine who came to us back in February. This brindle Lab-mix is a sweetheart but she must be the only pet in an adult household. Any medical expenses for these 'Foster Kids' will be paid by the shelter. We just need to find some kind souls to show them some love and lend them their guest accommodations. If you are able to one of them please put their name in the subject line and email [email protected] #PleaseShare

Here we have a Sr. guy who is very special to us. His name is Cujo, and while we're not crazy about his name - we ARE crazy about him! This 8-year old lived his whole life outside in a backyard and as you can see it shows. Despite his hardships he is such a LOVEABLE SWEETHEART. He seems to get along with EVERYONE and EVERYBODY - even our feral cats. You can see his AWESOME SPIRIT in his video below. He has been here for a few months now and has had no one ask to meet him. We need help getting the word out to find someone who can clearly see what a beautiful TREASURE he is. Please share and help us find Cujo a family and the LOVE he is so deserving of..... https://youtu.be/hUM6aIuNlWg I.D. # A1205600

Our 5-year old Dachshund Coco almost missed being adopted by her new family! A gentleman in line before the Decker family had come specifically to adopt Coco. But as he was viewing her, Coco kept running over to the gate to try and meet the Decker family's little wire-haired Dachshund (see pic). He went over and talked to the Decker family, who had driven from Marina, to ALSO adopt Coco and told them he felt her interest in them and their little dog, was a clear sign that she was meant to be with them and their dog. He said he was going to step aside and let destiny take it course. What a gentleman!! We wished we had taken a video for as Coco was leaving to go with her new family-the entire adoption line erupted in CHEERS for the way this worked out. Coco of course, pranced like a show poodle past them - all the way to the car !

A good Samaritan found this 'lost puppy' in a park so she brought it to us right away so it could be cared for. This kind citizen did not realize that it was a baby Coyote! We of course took it in and had one of our officers immediately transport it to the Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley so the proper folks could make sure the little guy could have a good outcome. All in a Days Work at ACC!

Best 'job' of the day goes to our volunteer Cristina Cura who gets to hand out treats to our shelter pets. Our animals get enrichment on a daily basis and it makes a big difference in helping make their environment a little more Fun, Delicious and Exciting. We know some of them wait ALL day for their turn. All of their 'goodies' can be found and purchased on our Amazon Shelter Wish List https://a.co/hHqJEiN

Our always smiling Pittie 'Monica' was just adopted by Robert Genovese. He and his wife had recently lost their beloved Pit Bull 'Bella' who passed away at 16 years old. Robert has been especially devastated by the loss. He was really hurting and missing his friend. So he got on-line and sent a couple inquiries to a few adoption groups but none of the organizations would respond back to him. Then he went to our website and was instantly smitten by Monica's happy face. H...e followed the instructions on how to meet her and couldn't believe when we got right back to him to set-up an appointment. He felt it was a sign that he had gotten Bella's blessing that Monica was approved to be his new friend and companion. When Monica was walked over to meet Robert, she took one look and then ran straight for him. You can see from the photos that Monica thought they were meant to be TOO! After adoptions documents were signed and Monica was officially part of the family Robert walked her to their car and opened the front passenger door for his wife. Much to her surprise, Monica immediately jumped in the front seat and made herself comfortable - her doggie way of calling dibs. Resigned Robert's wife quietly closed the door, got in the back-seat and buckled herself in. Then the Genovese family - complete once again- drove away to start their new chapter.

Kudos to our Shelter Medical Team for working so hard together to change this girl's bandages. It is a major undertaking because the severe wounds to her legs have left her with exposed bones and as you can imagine doing this type of treatment is quite painful. She arrived at ACC in this condition a few days ago. We do not know if she was hit by a car or just what her story is. We do know she is about 10 months old and despite her injuries she's a real SWEETHEART! 'Osa'... is currently in our 'Guardian Angel Program' so we can fund her medical care. We will keep you updated on her progress and are very grateful for any donations that allow us to care for her and all our other shelter pets who come to us with special needs. If you are able to contribute at this time we would sure appreciate it. https://licensepet.com/wl3/don/snjswd/574 #ItTakesAVillage

We always like to celebrate our ACC staff accomplishments. Here's our medical clinic's Emily Miller who we can tell is very happy (even with her mask on) after just graduating from the Foothill College Veterinary Technology Program! Along with her Associates Degree she also won a STEM division award/scholarship from Foothill. She now plans to take the national boards (VTNE) in November and then hopes to go full-time in our shelter's Medical Clinic. CONGRATS EM!!!

Another 92 Kittens arrived safely at Embrace a Discarded Animal Society this week. As many of you know, they are a 'favorite' rescue partner of ours - known for placing hundreds of our alumni in loving Canadian homes. Since many meowing lil' furballs are still coming through our shelter doors every single day.... We know we'll be seeing them again very soon!

We are looking for just the right home for Lukki. This darling orange kitten appeared many weeks ago when we were feeding our shelter's feral cat colony. She would dart in and out of the line-up trying to grab a bite of food here and there before the adults could chase or swat her away. We tried to catch her but did not have any luck. We re-doubled our efforts when we noticed she was limping and her skin had numerous large infected hot spots. She was a very pitiful littl...e thing indeed. She was finally trapped thanks to the skill and commitment of our Dispatcher, Barbara Wickham. Because she currently had nowhere to go and appeared to be just under 4 months we decided to start working on socializing her. As you can see she has made GREAT progress. She is affectionate, talkative and learning how to sit in laps - on the other hand she is a PRO at using her litter box! Though her skin is almost healed, she is not quite mentally ready to go into our public adoption area. And since we definitely do not want to put her outside again to live with the ferals, we are looking for a feline savvy person to give her a forever home. Someone who understands that while a true sweetheart, she still needs more confidence building. We want to get her out of this loud, noisy environment and into a quiet home where she can truly blossom and complete her own 'rags to riches' journey. If you're her person please e-mail [email protected] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YKrQ__q83A #PleaseHelpLukki

Look at Posey now! We are so thrilled that this adorable 13 year-old French Bulldog landed in the arms our AMAZING rescue partner. She was brought to ACC as an injured stray just this week and our shelter vets could not determine what was wrong with her. She appeared very weak and kept repeatedly collapsing and shaking - yet her blood work was normal. Her prognosis looked grim, but we kept the faith and our shelter coordinator, Monique Rodriquez reached out to Pits R' Us... All Breed Rescue and Adoptions - a group we because of their willingness to take in our urgent special needs cases. They wasted no time picking her up - and with the help of our ACC Guardian Angel funds - Amanda, her new foster mom took her immediately for more testing. When her veterinarian could not pin the problem down either Amanda (in between hand-feedings) started researching HERSELF on Google! Brain tumor, spinal cord issues, cancer, epilepsy? Then at 2AM she found THIS VIDEO - https://youtu.be/wN1_yS6_5T4 Game Changer - NARCOLEPSY! After sending the video first thing the next morning to Posey's vet who then also viewed Posey's similar video taken by Amanda - https://youtu.be/Ot3_EnxEto4 - and agreed with Amanda's narcoleptic 'self-diagnosis'! Posey, who had been receiving sub-Q fluids several times a day and is now being treated with CBD oil while they explore other medications, can now stand on her own to eat and drink .....without collapsing. She also goes everywhere with Amanda including hopping in the car to go to a baseball game (pictured). It must have been 'fate' that brought them together.- A little dog that urgently NEEDED HELP and a die-hard animal rescuer ABSOLUTELY DETERMINED to help her! #ItTakesAVillage

"I wanted to update you on Frankie, a Special Needs Cat I adopted from ACC. Yesterday was our 3 month anniversary together and he's doing well. Per your recommendation I had his dental done at my vet and they were so bad that he now has only 5 teeth left!. His breath is much better now and he has a happy, voracious appetite. He has put on over a pound in weight (although he's still skinny) and a few weeks ago we started him on the thyroid medication and I'm adding supplement...s to his food to try and manage the early onset kidney disease. He's gaining strength and is starting to groom himself, and his confidence is growing and he's exploring more of my home. I have another 16 year old cat who isn't a big fan, but they've found a way to co-exist and have their own areas that they stick to.The vet and I are pretty sure that Frankie is deaf - he does react to some loud noise but he's VERY vocal and has made several of my co-workers laugh while I've been on various calls (because of COVID I've been working from home since March). I've attached a photo of him so that you can see how he's doing; the 2 photos on the left are when I first picked him up and the two on the right were taken a few days ago. Thank you for not giving up on him - he clearly has a fight for life in him, and I'm glad that I get to support him and give him a good safe home." Hannah Hannah, we really appreciate your heartwarming update. We appreciate everything YOU did for Frankie. It take a special person indeed to adopt a 'down-on-their luck' Senior pet with outstanding health issues from a shelter. We sure need more people like you in the world. Wishing you both many blessings

We just recieved an adoption update from our awesome rescue partner Casa De Love Rescue. They are one of our most active rescue partners and tend to take dogs from us that need the most help. They had pulled Molly a senior black malti-poo, who was brought in as a stray to ACC in July. Molly needed to have surgery to remove several mammary masses that luckily turned out to be benign. After she recovered from surgery in a foster home they started looking for the perfect perm...anent home for her - AND THEY FOUND IT!. She was just adopted to her new home in San Mateo County this week. Her new mom Ofelia whisked her off to her 'Welcome Home' Birthday Party which included numerous doggie presents Our hearts are filled with gratitude for all those who helped sweet and gentle Molly along her journey. It is heartwarming to know that going forward she will receive all the and care she so deserves! #ItTakesAVillage

Recent Adopter Ann Edelstein messaged in to let us know that she and her husband just adopted a kitten from Petsmart in Victoria, British Columbia. They learned that the kitten they named Olive (pictured) had been transported last month from ACC and wanted to thank us for putting her on the transport -because they absolutely LOVE their cutie pie Olive! We are so happy to hear from them and are EXCITED for the 91 shelter pets heading out right now (pictured) transported courtesy of & sponsored by Waggin' Trails Rescue Foundation to our same partners Embrace a Discarded Animal Society who helped Olive. This much beloved and hardworking rescue group showcases and adopts hundreds of ACC alumni every year out of several PetSmart Charities Adoption Centers in British Columbia. #ItTakesAVillage

If our ACC Shelter Manger -Lorance Gomez- isn't in his office doing fifty things at once you can find him and his Tem in our parking lot loading up shelter pets headed to one of our rescue partners. Thank goodness we beat today's heat wave as this van load of 38 shelter pets headed north yesterday to one of our favorite groups Lucky Paws Rescue in Springfield Oregon. We like checking their page to see how quickly our furry alumni get adopted!
