Have a safe and joyful 4th of July!

San Diego Parks Foundation 01.07.2021

The San Diego Parks Foundation was proud to join Mayor Todd Gloria, Board of Supervisors Chair Nathan Fletcher, Councilmember Monica Montgomery Steppe, community leaders, and City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department to launch the Come Play Outside program. This private/public initiative will serve more than 15,000 youth this summer with fun, enriching activities such as outdoor nature camp, science camp, dance camp, sports clinics, as well as make possible dozens of fun, free, family fun events such as summer movies in the park and Fern Street Circus. These outdoor programs are critical to supporting our youth as we recover from the pandemic. You can learn more at comeplaysd.com #comeplayoutside #summerforallofus

#NationalTrailsDay was this past Saturday. Did you know that the parks system features more than 200 miles of trails through San Diego’s beautiful landscape of river valleys, canyons, mesas, and coastline. Trails offer compatible opportunities to enjoy scenic views and learn about the region’s diverse natural resources, while creating active links between recreational spaces. This picture was taken at Chollas Lake Park. As a reservoir built in 1901, Chollas Lake helped serv...e early San Diego's water supply. In 1966 it was turned over to the Parks & Recreation Department, and was designated a youth fishing lake in 1971. SDPF supports the recommendation in the Parks Master Plan to implement a Citywide Trails Master Plan. This plan would be comprehensive plan to guide responsible trail and open space park planning. #Parks #San Diego

Parks are vital to our mental and physical well-being, creating thriving and safe communities, and building social connections. Join the San Diego Parks Foundation and community partners for a conversation with New York City Parks Commissioner Mitchell Silver FAICP, as we examine the ways that thoughtful park design can create a more equitable park system with the power to transform communities. As New York City Parks Commissioner, Commissioner Silver oversees the management,... planning and operations of nearly 30,000 acres of parkland. He is known for the innovative projects he has worked on, including the Community Parks Equity Initiative, Parks without Borders, Cool Pools and Creative Courts. This is a free educational event sponsored by the San Diego Parks Foundation, and made possible by a generous contribution of the Schmidt Design Group. Register at parksforpeople.eventbrite.com
