Exciting news from California! Yesterday the California Department of Public Health updated its FAQ's document to allow playing of band instruments outside and singing outside at school with certain precautions in place including social distancing and masks. "On October 14, 2020 to clarify that outdoor singing and band practice are permitted provided that precautions such as physical distancing and mask wearing are implemented to the maximum extent possible." CDPH

A Philippines Ukulele Project Update: When visiting in 2019, I noticed a musician friend carefully wrap a worn pair of drumsticks, the only pair he owned. Then, someone needed a tuner and I also realized that replacement ukulele strings were not easy to find. So about a year ago, we put a box in our lobby to accept donated clothing and supplies for the Philippines in response to the earthquakes and to get our musicians there some small items. Included were ukuleles from some ...of our generous sponsors, Jim Eliott and Scott Linder and replacement strings from D'Addario and Co. People in our community have donated stuffed animals, clothing for children, shoes, and household supplies. We added some drumsticks It takes several months for the boxes to get there. And we recently received some pictures of your donations that have arrived. We are appreciative of being a part of a community that cares. We will continue to send what you have to give. The Receiver and The Giver both benefit from the act of giving. For those who receive, the benefits are apparent. But it is those who give who gain the most. For those of us who feel helpless, despondent, or discouraged, the act of Giving heals. Know that even a small gift makes a great difference in others lives.
