Here's what to do if you are stopped by ICE.

In the excitement over the President's announcement last week regarding administrative relief for millions of undocumented Americans some may have missed his announcement regarding granting Temporary Protected Status ("TPS") to citizens of Liberia, Guinea, and Sierra Leone. TPS grants a period of stay and work authorization for citizens of either of those countries living in the US since 11/20/2014. Citizens of these countries have until May 20, 2015 to apply.

Obama provided insight today into his plan for executive action. Think you might be eligible? Here is an overview based on the limited information available and a summary of what documents you will likely need to apply.

Today he made an announcement that tomorrow he will make an announcement Thursday and then a follow-up announcement Friday. Check out Danielle Rosché's ideas about what administrative steps he can take below. As a nod to those of us who've been waiting patiently for him to take action, the original blog was published in May, 2011: http://www.immigrateme.com/update-top-ten-ways-obama-can-m/

Big news coming? Obama may use his powers to allow many long time undocumented residents a path to have lawful status.

I'm outraged by the Obama Administration's plans to open a new detention center for children and families in Dilley, TX. This plan is not only an affront to the USA's history of welcoming refugees but also a waste of our financial resources. By ICE's own estimates this facility with cost $298 per resident per day. With 2,400 beds in the facility that's $261,048,000 to lock up children and their parents. You can see parts of my interview with The Nation in the article below but the point is that this facility will be used to house children and parents who are seeking refugee status. CCA and private prisons have moved from getting rich off of criminals to getting rich off of children fleeing for their lives and it's disgusting.

Danielle's letter to President Obama on the atrocities in Artesia was delivered to one of his aides yesterday. Here are excerpts from the letter.

The Huffington Post has published a short article discussing our associate, Danielle Rosche's, radio interview from earlier this week. Unfortunately there's no mention in the article that the children and their mothers are for the most part bona fide refugees but we are pleased to see that the manner of their detention is getting more publicity. This situation should not be allowed to go on in the US.

Many ICE agents are now impersonating police officers to try and trick people to letting them in. Here's a good summary of what to do.

USCIS will accept applications for individuals who qualify for the expanded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program starting February 18, 2014. Previously only individuals who were under 31 as of June 15, 2012 could apply. Now an individual's present age does not matter. Previously this program required continuance residence in the U.S. since June 15, 2007. This start-date for continuance residence is now January 1, 2010.

President Obama is confident there is enough public support for his actions that they will not be overturned by a future administration.
