It's beautiful outside, San Diego! As the days get warmer, plan any outings with your pup for the early morning or around sundown to prevent hot paws or heat-related illness. Before you head out for your adventure, make sure to grab the essentials: a leash, cool water and waste bags. While it's the law to have your dog leashed, it also helps keep your pooch, yourself and others safe! #LoveEmLeashEm #LeashYourDog #DogLovers #SanDiegoPets #HeatSafety #LoveYourDog

It's a tough call! We just aren't sure WHICH baby wild animal is the most adorable while bottle feeding. For scientific purposes, we're taking a poll. Is it: 1- the young skunk, 2- the baby cottontail or 3- the juvenile squirrel?... Our Project Wildlife care specialists will help these wild animals and thousands more grow big and strong before they are released back into the wild! (P.S. If your answer was "all 3" we'd have to agree!) #Wildlife #BottleBabies #Wildliferescue #WildlifeRehab #ProjectWildlife

The only thing cuter than one rat is two (or more!) snuggled together in a hammock. Rats are social pets and are happiest with a friend at home! Each of these long-tailed beauties are individuals. While some love pets and play time with their people, others may prefer to spend more solo time with their toys. What they all have in common are their inquisitive and friendly natures! If you're thinking about adding some of these ruby-eyed beauties to your family, the adoptions counselors at our Oceanside and San Diego campuses are ready to help you find your perfect match! You can also view all of our adoptable ratties at sdhumane.org/adopt. #FancyRats #PetRats #PocketPets #SmallPets #AdoptAShelterPet

A fledgling Coopers Hawk was able to be reunited with its family thanks to quick thinking by one of our Humane Officers! A good Samaritan reported seeing the young hawk at a park in Carmel Valley, unable to fly. Humane Officer Vaz observed the fledgling on the ground and was able to locate nearby adult male and female Coopers Hawks. Officer Vaz relocated the bird to a safer, less-trafficked area for a reunion with its parents. Each spring, San Diego Humane Society responds to... many calls to assist wild birds that are unable to fly. In each case, Humane Law Enforcement officers will survey the nearby surroundings to ensure an animal's safety and that ongoing care is still taking place prior to human intervention. If you're ever unsure whether or not wildlife needs help, refer to the information at sdhumane.org/wildlife. #Hawks #Wildlife #WildlifeRescue #AnimalRescue #WildlifeWednesday
