San Carlos AYSO 11.12.2020

Firstly, we hope that everyone is healthy in these unusual times. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 cases in San Mateo County have increased notably in the past month. Correspondingly, the school board voted to start San Carlos public schools in distance learning, San Mateo County is on the state monitoring list, and the city indicated that the fields will remain closed to sports practices (aside from camps) until there is a change in the county health guidance. Given all of the ...above, the board voted this past week to delay the start of any season that may occur until at least early October. We will re-evaluate the situation in September to decide if further postponing or canceling is needed. Field access aside, as a larger youth organization in San Carlos, we feel it is important to do our part to limit community spread and get the kids back at school. Stay strong San Carlos! SC AYSO

Current air quality is in the healthy range, but it is forecasted to decline toward the afternoon. Just as a reminder, our policy is that games/practices are cancelled when the air quality hits orange (harmful for sensitive individuals). Of course, players and coaches can and should make their own decisions. We will continue to monitor the air quality and send an update if the air quality deteriorates to Orange.

Why do we have Silent Saturday?? - To give players a chance to trust their skills and instincts without sideline input, and without concern that their mistakes will be corrected from the sidelines. - To foster leadership skills among the individual players as they have the unique opportunity of giving instruction on the field. - To foster a sense of true teamwork as the players must learn to rely upon one another and communicate with each other accordingly.... - To remind coaches, parents, and players that PRACTICE is the time for instruction. Games are the showcases for learning and fun. - To help the parents and coaches who feel they must provide constant direction, to understand that kids can play very well on their own with limited instruction. - To eliminate the verbal questioning of the referees’ decisions. - To eliminate the negativity coming from some coaches and spectators on the sidelines. Quiet please, kids at play! Let the game be the teacher today!!!

What is Silent Saturday? Silent Saturday is a game day where parents and coaches don't talk to, yell instructions to, or even vocally cheer for the players during the game. The purpose is to let the players learn and enjoy the game for themselves and with their teammates. Kids need to make their own decisions in soccer, right or wrong, to develop as successful players. This helps them think on their feet during a game and not rely on the instructions their parents or coaches are yelling from the sidelines (which they usually can’t hear, much less process, during the game anyway).
