In today's gospel, we learn about the Samaritan who approached Jesus in thanksgiving for being healed. We also remember the life of St. Martin of Tours today, a... saint who devoted his live to prayer and non-violence. Let us approach God with thanksgiving as they did. Thank you for joining us today live from the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Downtown Los Angeles. We may be tuning in from locations far away, but we are together in prayer! #saferathome Today's readings can be found here: https://www.usccb.org/bible/readings

November 11th is the Optional Memorial of Saint Martin of Tours (316-397), Bishop. Martin was born around the year 316 in modern-day Hungary. His family left that region for Italy when his father, a military official of the Roman Empire, had to transfer there. Today we observe Veterans Day, usually celebrated on November 11th... We remember and pray for all our Veterans who have served for our country in the armed forces and their families for the sacrifices they have made for all of us.... Let us look back and reflect on the history of Veterans’ Day... ... On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day in the eleventh month of the year 1918, an armistice was signed, ending the "war to end all wars." November 11th was set aside as Armistice Day in the United States to remember the sacrifices that men and women made during the war in order to ensure a lasting peace. In 1938 Congress voted Armistice Day as a legal holiday, but World War II began the following year. Armistice Day was still observed after the end of the Second World War. In 1953 townspeople in Emporia, Kansas called the holiday Veterans Day in gratitude to the veterans in their town. Soon after, Congress passed a bill renaming the national holiday to Veterans Day. [From CatholicCulture.org] Let us pray, Almighty God and Father, look with love upon our men and women in uniform and protect them in their time of need. Give them health and stability and allow them to return to their loved ones whole and unshaken. Be with their families and sustain them in these uncertain times. Grant strength and peace of mind to the Veterans who have given their best for the country they love. Support them in infirmity and in the fragility of old age. Teach us to remember their sacrifices and to express our gratitude. Manifest your tender care to those in the Military Academies who prepare for future service and to those who serve our Nation far from home. Teach us to remember the sacrifices of those whose efforts contribute to ensuring our way of life. Bless and multiply the priests who minister to the faithful of the Archdiocese for the Military Services. Reward their generosity and keep them faithful. Hear us as we present our prayers to You through Christ our Lord. Amen. [From the Archdiocese for the Military Services - milarch.org]
